Guns I don’t own

But I want: Wilson Combat Carry-Comp.  Unlike some people, I’m a big believer in ported/compensated guns for self-defense and carry.  I’ve never really bought into the canard about how a comped gun will ruin your night vision, because the thing is already shooting out a foot long column of fire.

In fact, in his book The Combat Automatic, Bill Wilson himself said that if he knew he was going to get into it, the gun he’d want is his Wilson Combat Accu-Comp LE.

The Carry-Comp gun linked above starts life as a Commander sized gun, and then with the addition of the compensator on the front of it, becomes just a little bit larger than a full-sized 1911.  The obvious benefit of a compensator is the reduction in muzzle flip for faster follow-up shots on the target, which in a self-defense situation is a key thing to have.  I would love to have one of these in .38 Super to pair with my full sized Accu-Comp gun, but unfortunately I don’t have 3k to drop on a handgun.  Although if I did, this would be near the top of my list.

Guns for thee but not for me

Jennifer Aniston holds burglar at gun point.  I honestly don’t have much to say about this story, other than I wonder if she 1) voted for Obama, and 2) it must be nice to be rich and famous in LA.

And yes, I know it was in her home, so you don’t need a permit for that, but the point stands that you can’t get a carry permit in LA County unless you’re special in one way or the other.  Didn’t used to be that way, but it is now.

Update: I can’t verify this source anywhere, so I’m thinking this story is bogus.  Too bad, because the thought of Jennifer Aniston with a blaster is pretty cool.

SCAR 16 rifles shipped to dealers

From the Shooting Wire:

FNH USA announces the exciting FN SCAR™ 16S for the civilian enthusiast was delivered to its dealer base at year end 2008. This first group of rifles is part of a one-of-a-kind initial production run.

These limited FN SCAR 16S initial production edition rifles are unique and were specially engraved by FNH USA, LLC on both sides of the receiver rather than on one side only. In addition, this FN SCAR 16S initial production edition rifle has been specially packaged in a durable, lockable, waterproof Hardigg® Storm hard side case that is ideal for storage and transportation. They also have been delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Of course, this post is useless without pics, so if you’re wondering what exactly it was that they shipped out to the dealers, it looks a little bit like this:

I predict that this first run of rifles will be bought up pretty quickly, what with everyone and their sister running out to buy semi-auto rifles right now.

Plus, it’s worth noting that unlike some companies (I’m looking at you, HK), FN USA is friendly to the civilian market.  The produce civilian versions of their assault rifles, and have made all of their pistols available for general purchase as well.

Last Night’s Gun Nuts: Open Carry

Last night on Gun Nuts Radio, we featured Meleanie Hain – the PA soccer mom who has become the poster child for the open carry movement.  Clicking the link above will take you to the show, or you can click on the embedded player to the right of this post.  If you’d like to download the .mp3 file, please hit the button below to play/download the .mp3.

You can also always download or listen to shows by visiting www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts and clicking on any of the archived podcasts.  Although, don’t miss out on last night’s show.  One of the neat things about it was that you got to hear Meleanie’s story without it getting filtered by the MSM first; I found out that she had been open carrying to soccer games and practices for some time before the incident.

The topic of open carry could really be a two, three, or even four show topic, and it’s definitely one that we plan on revisiting in the future.  There’s a lot of good discussion to be had when dealing with open carry, and a lot of pros and cons to go back and forth on.  For now however, you’ll have to content yourselves with last night’s show – get it by clicking this link labeled “Open Carry“.

File hosting bleg

I’m looking for an online place to back-up the archives from Gun Nuts Radio.  I’m pretty sure I don’t have the space on the “Call me Ahab” server, and I’d want it somewhere I could recover it if for some reason, BTR, Call me Ahab, and my hard drive at (and HD backup) all went Tango Uniform at the same time.

Do any of you use an online file hosting service, and if so, what do you use/recommend?

Big Gunny weekend

This weekend, the Indy 1500 Gun & Knife Show will be going on at the Fairgrounds.  I’ll definitely be there, if for no other reason than to break in the shoes I’ll be wearing at SHOT.

Also this weekend at Marion County Fish & Game is a steel plate match – that’s this Friday night.  Barring some unforseen disaster, I’ll be there as well.

Steel plates on Friday, gun show on Saturday.  What more could a boy ask for?

Gun Nuts Radio: Open Carry

Tonight’s Gun Nuts Radio should be an excellent show.  We’ll be discussing the topic of Open Carry, which has been near to my heart in the past and remains so to this day.  Joining us on tonight’s show will be Meleanie Hain, the PA soccer mom who has become a public advocate for open carry after her carry permit was illegally revoked by the sheriff.

We’ll go live as usual at 9pm Eastern time – the first half of the show will prominently feature questions for Ms. Hain, and then we’ll open up the call-in line at  (347) 539-5436 so that you can ask your questions to Ms. Hain as well.  Join us tonight at 9pm Eastern time at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts for what is sure to be a great show!
