You might have noticed that the “posted by” header on the blog has changed from Ahab to a name which you’ve not seen before. That would be my real name.
But don’t worry, I will still respond to Ahab, and you can of course continue to Call me Ahab.

I don’t even like 1911 type pistols, and I still think this is a fugly ass gun.
It’s a solution in search of a question for sure, except that this solution is wrong. So it’s like running around yelling the answer to 2+2= 7 or something.
Wow. That’s just an awful thing to do to a firearm. If you wanted a compact, light .45 ACP there are plenty of other ways to go about it.
From my NRA-ILA Grassroots alert:
On Wednesday, January 23, the Senate Committee on Local Government and Elections will likely consider Senate Bill 29, introduced by Senator Jeff Drozda (R-21). SB29 would be an important step forward in the effort to further enhance Indiana’s commonsense preemption and range protection statutes by prohibiting local government entities from regulating the lawful discharge of firearms with limited exemptions. This legislation will also prohibit local governments from imposing a minimum lot size on which a shooting range may be located.
The Senate Local Government and Elections public hearing will be held in the Senate Chamber at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23. If possible, please be present to express your support for SB29, and regardless of whether or not you can attend the public hearing, please contact the Committee Members listed below at (317) 232-9400 and strongly urge them to support and vote for SB29!
Senator Connie Lawson (Chairwoman)
Senator Sue Landske
Senator Phil Boots
Senator Mike Delph
Senator Gary “Doc” Dillon
Senator Thomas Wyss
Senator Michael Young
Senator Bob Deig
Senator John Broden
Senator Timothy Lanane
Senator Samuel Smith Jr.
SB29 will strengthen Indiana’s existing laws which prohibit localities from passing legislation which is contrary to existing state laws, know as preemption. Specifically, SB29 is designed to protect lawful shooting ranges from being essentially “zoned out of business” by anti-gun government officials. Again, you can reach the members of the committee voting on SB29 at (317) 232-9400.
If possible, please attend the meeting tomorrow at 1pm Eastern time.
So, I can’t this year because the timing (and that I’m not sure I remember how), but I’m planning on shooting in the Bianchi Cup in 2009. I figure over a year of training time will be more than enough to get me into shape to get my ass whipped by the Galaxy-class shooters that shoot the Bianchi Cup every year.
The other night as I was watching Shooting USA, Mrs. Ahab pointed out quite correctly that it was rather odd that I wasn’t competing any more; especially considering my personality and nature, as well as the fact that I write a gun blog. It wasn’t an easy question to answer, but I realized that I did miss shooting competitively in more than the friendly local bullseye matches at the ranges I go to.
The biggest problem is that none of my current guns are really suited for shooting NRA Action Pistol, so I guess (damn) I’ll just have to buy a good competitive revolver. Although, that 6 inch custom Ruger that my dad has would work pretty well (coughhintcough). And start shooting action matches at the local level in the interim.
It will feel good to start competing again.
Some times it’s nice to be blogging from home when I work PST hours; I get to listen to my music. Seriously, if you’re not listening to Irish punk rock (Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, etc) you should be. The combination of guitars, pipes, and ROCK is the best medicine to start my day with.
Did I mention that the Murphys are also huge Red Sox fans?
Sebastian has one of his best posts ever up, describing the deep hypocrisy involved in the media’s defense of the DC Gun ban.
On Jan. 11, the DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice filed a brief in the Supreme Court, asking the court to uphold the District’s segregation law in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller. Our brief was co-sponsored by the D.C. League of Women Voters, the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, the Federal City Council, DC for Democracy and the Washington Council of Lawyers.
Go read it. He is 100% correct.
The bill to close the mythical “gun show loophole” in Virginia seems to be stalling. In the Virginia House on Friday, the bill was voted down in committee and essentially killed; however today the Virginia Senate will be taking up the Senate version of the bill, which is noticeably stronger than the legislation that was killed in the House.
My Virginia sources tell me that the bill stands a much stronger chance of passing through the Senate than it did in the House, but that if it does reach the House it will likely suffer the same fate as the House version of the bill. That being said, Virginia residents, contact your State Senators today, right now. Especially if your Senator sits on the Courts of Justice Committee.
Is still an idiot. I’m listening to him on Mike and Mike in the Morning right now; and he keeps saying that the ’07 Patriots will be the “2nd best team in football history”; and that the Dolphins record “can never be broken”.
I have a newsflash for you Mercury – you went 17-0; if the Pats pull this off, they’ll go 19-0. Not only is that two more games than your team won, but I’m only 100% certain that the ’07 Pats would pound the ’72 Dolphins into sand.
Anyway, he’s still an idiot.
Today is Bitter’s Birthday, she’s survived another revolution of the earth around the cursed daystar.
Are you tired of waiting until the March/April editions of your favorite gun rag to find out what cool widgets were unveiled at the latest Shot Show? You won’t have to this year. I’ll be there, in person, blogging the event like a champion. I’ll be there all day on Saturday and Sunday, and then if I can squeeze out of work early on Monday I’ll try to get some additional coverage then.
Honestly, I’m really excited about this. I’ve always wanted to attend one of these, and the opportunity to actually be there for is making me a little giddy. I will endeavor to cover as much of the show as I can, from revolvers to black rifles; but I’ve also looked at the floor plan and there is so much there that I couldn’t possibly make it to every booth in the 2 full days that I’ll have.
Look for exclusive blog coverage of the 2008 Shot Show here, starting on February 2nd!
