Gun Nuts Tonight: Live from Arizona

That’s right, tonight’s Gun Nuts Radio will be live from Arizona, hosted by Breda! The show will go live as usual at 9pm Eastern time, and Breda will be wanting the maximum number of call ins – show join the show live at 9pm by calling 347-539-5436 at 9pm Eastern! That’s 9pm Eastern at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts!

Those who can

I am sure that you have heard the phrase “Those who can, do – those who can’t, teach.” This saying doesn’t always hold true in the shooting sports, as many of the top flight instructors and schools are populated with former Tier-1 military personnel, top USPSA shooters, etc. However, I got an email yesterday as a response to the post about Front Sight’s assets being seized that asked me what I had against Front Sight. I guess I could have pointed out the shady land deals, the defrauding students, the Scientology (yeeeeeeesh), but when you really get down to it’s that when you’re looking at Front Sight, the saying about “those who can’t, teach” is 100% true. Iggy P. has no shooting credentials other than going to other people’s gun schools and skimming their materials. No high level competition experience, no military/LE experience just a made up title (4 weapons combat master?) and some expensive classes.

I guess I could also add that he’s one of the many people that have stolen Marko’s “Why the Gun is Civilization” essay and incorrectly attributed it to Major Caudill. So you could add “plagiarism” and “intellectual property theft” to the list of reasons I don’t like Front Sight.

Editorial Fail

Ted Nugent’s new book has an essay by some “Major Caudill” guy in it.  This is an instance of TITANIC editorial fail.  Seriously, the essay is in the book in its entirety, incorrectly attributed to the fictional Major Caudill, when in fact the original “Why the Gun is Civiliation was written by Marko back in 2007.  Way to fail, Nuge, way to fail.

Someone once asked me

“Hey Caleb, if you were thinking about taking a training class, would you go to Front Sight in Nevada?”  I said “no.”  I had my reasons, which included distance, cost, and that I’d rather to go to several other trainers/schools such as Gunsite, Thunder Ranch, Tactical Response, or I.C.E.  The real cherry on the sundae of “why I won’t go to Front Sight” is this story though.

You want good training?  There are plenty of schools that aren’t having their assets seized by the government for failing to comply with a court order.

Update: PDB brings the Hateraede!

Not a gun post

There is some kind of feline cold war going on in my house.  We picked up a new cat yesterday, and named her Kaylee which goes right along with our other cat(s) names, Malcolm and Inara (the cat that ran away…she left Serenity).  Right now, Kaylee is hiding under the couch, and growling at Mal when he walks by, Mal reciprocates by hissing at her at any given opportunity and generally acting like a dick.

I’m not sure which cat in this equation is the USA and which one is the former USSR, but I’m actually quite pleased that they have not broken out into outright hostility.  I imagine that’s a good sign.

If I ever convince Mrs. Ahab to get a dog, we’re naming him Jayne, and buying him a collar that says “The Hero of Canton.”

Leaving, on a jet plane

I leave for Bianchi Cup today.  Once I get on the road around 10am or 11am Eastern time, updates on the match itself and the surrounding events will come in one of three formats.

  1. When I can, I will post stuff to GunNuts.net
  2. Check here to check my twitter feed – it’s located in the right sidebar, and will be updated regularly since Twittering is pretty easy to do.
  3. Check The Gun Nuts Radio Blog.  Blogger allows me to post to that blog via email, which is easier than using the web browser on my crackberry to post here.

In fact, I have a post up at the radio blog right now, which shows the insane amount of gear and clothes I have to take with me for this match.  Definitely check back here at GunNuts.Net and at the Radio Blog for more updates direct from Bianchi Cup!

So many rails, so little time

So, Stoeger, one of the Beretta family of companies and maker of fine replica coach guns has decided to make a “coach gun” that is either the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen, or the most horrible thing – I’m honestly not sure. Meet the Stoeger Tactical Double Barrel Shotgun.  One the one hand, the part of me that absolutely loves tactical goodies wants this gun so hard; on the other hand, the part of me that owns single action revolvers and wears cowboy boots died a little inside when it saw this gun.

I’m quite conflicted.  I mean, it almost seems like a good idea.  Ported barrels to control the admittedly abusive recoil on a 12 gauge coach gun, a rail for mounting an optic, another rail if you want to mount a forward pistol grip…I want to love it, I really do.  As of yet, the Tactical Double Defense Coach Gun has yet to appear on Stoeger’s website, but Alan has photos at the link above.  No word yet on MSRP, either.
