Obama Campaign squashing dissent part 2
Apparently, the Obama campaign has recruited law enforcement in Missouri to “to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign.”
They’re even calling them “Truth Squads”.
I can’t make this stuff up, people. Don’t believe me? Here’s the video.
As we enter the proverbial “home stretch” of this election, it seems that Barack Victory at any Cost Obama has decided that suppressing the 1st Amendment and further eviscerating the constitution sounds like a really awesome way to win an election.
One more Pin post
Pin match is tomorrow at Marion County F&G. I’m hoping that my Gun Blog 9mm comes in so I can run that tomorrow – nothing like 147 grain 9mm HP to clean pins off the table…at least until they’ve soaked up a few dozen rounds of .45 ACP, then they get kind of heavy.
Even if the Gun Blog 9mm doesn’t come in, you can bet I’ll still be there whacking away at pins with whatever gun I do end up running.
See you tomorrow!
Duct tape can fix anything
Even street signs that are out of date.
Backstory – on one of the roads I take on my way home from the office, there is a lane that used to be a right turn only lane. Well, they painted some lines on the road and made it into a turn or go straight lane, but for a while the sign was still up that said “Right turn only”.
Demonstrating a tremendous knack for “thinking on your feet”, the Indianapolis road guys came up with the optimal solution.
Duct tape the thing so that people can’t see the sign.
Well played, Indy Public Works. Well played.
Here we go again
The Army is asking “industry” to provide ideas for a combat rifle to replace the M16/M4 platform. Thus, they have instigated what will likely culminate in months of flamewars on Arfcom and other locales as people tirelessly debate the merits of this cartridge vs. that cartridge and platform X vs. platform Y. But don’t think that the Army is doing this because they’ve had an epiphany that the M4 sucks (it doesn’t) or that 5.56 round sucks (it also doesn’t). Here’s why they’re doing it:
The move to broaden the competition is also calendar-driven: the so-called “technical data package” of the M4 — essentially the blueprints for the design — are up for release in June of next year. That means the Army can rebid the M4 to any company that can make it, potentially driving down costs and boosting production capacity.
Which is a smart move – if they can rebid on the contract to manufacture the M4, why not get bids from all sorts of places, see if someone can offer a better rifle for a lower cost. For my part, as long as no one starts talking about “awesome” the XM8 is, I think I’ll be happy.
What I’m saying is that gas-piston and HK fanboys should not get their hopes up about the Army switching to a new carbine platform. If they did switch platforms, I wouldn’t be too surprised if they ended with the FN Herstal SCAR platform though – that’s a serious combat rifle and is already in use with the Green Berets.
Obama Campaign squashing dissent
Obama’s campaign is trying to suppress advertisements run by NRA which expose his anti-gun record. What’s crazy is that these ads haven’t even started running yet in the markets they were targeted for – but Obama’s people are so concerned about the gun and hunting vote that they’re actively trying to squash the ads. Here’s the letter from Obama’s general counsel.
What’s kind of funny is that 1) everything that NRA is claiming in these ads is true, and 2) that Obama’s campaign is relying on Factcheck.org’s statements of his “record” to disprove NRA’s claims.
Nevermind that factcheck.org has been thoroughly discredited as a left wing anti-gun organization, but people should be appalled that Obama is trying to squash the 1st Amendment rights of people with whom he disagrees. It’s like Sebastian says on his Instalanched post, “this is Chicago politics at its finest folks. If you can’t win fair, win dirty.”
I know I have some readers who are Obama supporters – I don’t get it, but whatever. This is what your candidate wants. To suppress the 1st Amendment rights of people simply because they’re airing information – true, vetted information that doesn’t jive with what your candidate wants people to perceive him as. Obama’s campaign is so scared of the gun vote that they’re willing to openly try to impede on the freedom of the press and freedom of speech in the name of winning an election.
You stay classy, Barack.
Update: Here’s the advertisement that he’s so intent on not letting you see.
Vote for Ahab – vote for FREEDOM
My fellow Americans*:
At a time when our nation is embroiled in a massive financial crisis, fighting a two front war on a relentless and passionate enemy, while prices for fuel and basic commodities spiral out of control, two major candidates are vying for your vote. Both of these men have established records, and each one claims that he is the man to bring about the “change” that our system needs.
Fie, I say. A vote for either of my opponents is a vote to maintain the status quo in the United States, to preserve the system of partisan politics and mindless bickering that has too long mired our nation and caused our economy to slowly stagnate. I say that “Real Change” is needed, and I am the man to bring about that “Real Change”. Now, I see you staring back at me with a blank expression and vacant eyes. While you may look like you’re retarded, I can see a spark in those eyes – the spark of Hope that I, Ahab, will bring about the Real Change, and a turn away from partisan politics.
But you must be wondering how can I accomplish such a thing? How can I, one man, change Washington and America from our current bureaucratic nightmare into the true utopia that it was meant by God and John Wayne to be? Well, my fellow Americans, the plan is simple and three fold:
1. Vote for me – this way everything I do after you elect me is totally legal
2. A really big claw hammer.
3. Change
With my hammer, I will literally beat within an inch of their lives every elected politician in this nation, until I can no longer lift my arms at the slightest hint that they may be proposing some kind of dumbassed legislation that would interfere with your Allah given right to do as you damn well please provided it harms no one.
At the same time, I will appoint a new Cabinet level position in my administration: The Department of Whoopings. The Secretary of Whoopings will be carefully chosen from a pool of notorious ass kickers – this man or woman will have the sole job of traveling the country and beating the stupid out of people.
America – I am tired of the partisan bickering. I grow weary of the constant babble coming from Washington. It’s time for Really Violent Change – Change with a claw hammer. Vote for Ahab – vote for a New, more Awesome America.
Good night, and may the Ghost of John Wayne bless you.

Pins this weekend
There is a bowling pin match this weekend at Marion County Fish and Game association; as usual I’ll be there. I missed the August match, so I’m pretty eager to get out there and do some terrible things to bowling pins.
Now that I’ve been shooting IDPA and USPSA for a bit, people have asked me why I still shoot bowling pins. There are two answers to that question, the first answer being that it’s a silly amount of fun. Look at this video and tell me that doesn’t look awesome.
You can’t, because it is quite close to the most fun you can have with a pistol. The second part of why I keep shooting pins is because it’s great practice for my “serious” matches. I was thinking about it yesterday, and hitting a bowling pin with a pistol at 25 feet is not an easy shot – the pin has a more narrow profile than the A-zone of an IDPA target, and while it’s taller than the “money zone” of the cardboard I’m used to shooting, a bad hit on a pin is just wasted. For example, in the video above I was actually hitting the pins just a little too high – and thus I left one of them on the table and had to come back for it with another round.
I actually wish that Pin shooting hadn’t fallen out of popularity – I think that the head-to-head match style along with the obvious reactive nature of the targets would make Pin shooting an excellent spectator shooting sport. The action is fast, and people can really get into watching two good shooters run head to head against one another.
Don’t forget, this Saturday morning at MCF&G – shoot pins, have fun.
The High Road
It seems that The High Road is down due to what I can only call an attempted coup d’etat by one of the forum’s administrators. Oleg, the original owner of the forum, has the details up at his LiveJournal.
Now, I don’t know all the details, however I’m going to throw my support behind Oleg here – because Tam speaks well of him, and I know Tam. If he has her endorsement, that’s good enough for me. Oleg is looking for a little help with the legal costs associated with getting The High Road back in his name, so if you can spare some change (HA) please click the link above to donate to his paypal/legal fund.
SHOT SHOW 2009
Speaking of SHOT as I did in the post immediately beneath this one; I’ve registered online and am all set with the exception of purchasing plane tickets.
Last year’s coverage of SHOT was pretty popular – we had podcasts and pictures and all kinds of stuff. While the actual event is still several months away, I realized from last year that I need to have a better plan for ’09 than I did for 2008. With that in mind, I want to ask the readers what kind of coverage you’re interested coming out of SHOT? Last year we did a lot of revolvers and new products, I get the funny feeling that you guys want more EBRs than I did last year.
So – what do The People want to see? As I start to compile a plan for coverage, knowing what you want to see and hear will certainly make my job a lot easier. So here’s a list of things that I’m working on for SHOT ’09, you pick which of the “Gimme more” options you’d like:
- More EBRs
- More Interviews/Podcasts
- More Wheelguns
- Live Radio from the Show
- More New Products
The nice thing about being an all online outlet for SHOT is that if you want to know about a new product, you don’t have to wait for months for your favorite gun magazine to write about it – you can see it right here mere hours after I’ve seen it and held it. And if you guys want that, I’m more than happy to provide.
