Head over to the Gun Nuts Blog to check out the new shotgun sighting system from Advantage Tactical Sight.
Olympic Arms Westerner 1911
This one is just straight up gun porn. Easily the sexiest 1911 I saw at all of SHOT SHOW 2009.

Real case hardening on the slide and frame, with the faux bone grips make this the BBQ gun to end all BBQ guns. (If you don’t know what a BBQ gun is, see this link.)
Todd Jarrett is faster than my camera
During SHOT SHOW 2009, Todd Jarrett was doing his usual demonstrations to the crowd, part of which was him doing draws from a level 2 Serpa holster against the clock. I set my camera to “full automatic” (i.e. hold down the shutter button to take pictures as long as it’s pressed) to try and get his draw motion. At the shutter speed I needed to get enough light into the picture, this proved to be a futile effort. Picture one was taken immediately after the buzzer, and catches the beginning of Todd’s reaction.

By the time the shutter clicked the second time, it was all over.

Another for Robb
Robb Allen’s wife is going to hate me for this.

Oh yeah, that’s right. A 10mm 1911 from Dan Wesson (which is actually CZ). Comes from the factory with adjustable sights, a front fiber optic post, and a pretty cool looking set of grips.

The Dan Wesson Sportsman 10mm – now you to can shoot a cartridge even more expensive than .38 Super! Part of my continuing SHOT SHOW 2009 coverage.

SHOT SHOW Day 3
Day 3 of SHOT SHOW 2009 was spent primarily cruising the landscape for the elusive (I kid) black rifle. Honestly, the EBR was everywhere at SHOT – the number of tactical rails, widgets, and doo-dads that I saw was truly staggering in its scope. A brief tour around the evil black rifle world rewarded me with the following gifts.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
Above is the Crimson Trace vertical foregrip for rifles (and shotguns) equipped with a tactical rail. The grip comes integrated with both the ubiquitous laser as well as an extremely bright light. The light and laser can be set to either pulse or steady. The light itself has an output rating of 150 lumens in one mode, and 200 lumens in another mode.

From our “friends” at HK, here is a wall of guns that you can’t have, except for the one at the very bottom which isn’t nearly as cool as the rest of them. Because you suck, and they hate you. However, they do hate us a little less, as they actually had the new HK 416 and HK 417 on display.

While not actually a rifle, the Sig 556 Pistol is actually pretty neat. Every time I see a .223 pistol, all I can think is “SBR…daddy wants an SBR” (short barreled rifle). I’d love to take one of these, fill out the requisite paper work so I don’t go to jail, and throw a shoulder stock on it. Then I’d use it for 3 gun or something fun.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
Over at the High-Standard booth, they had their new 9mm carbine on display – made on an FN lower, the gun will carry a retail price of around $1000, and should be available soon. I like pistol caliber carbines, and I like 9mm carbines a lot. The 9mm round when fired from a carbine gets a significant boost in terminal performance. The High-Standard gun has 11.5 inches of barrel, with about 5 inches of flash hider to make it not an SBR.

Rock River had a cool looking display, with a double-sided glass wall rack covered in AR-15s.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
Charles Daley is now making ARs, branding them under the name “Charles Daley defense”. The lowers are from Doublestar. One of their coolest models is their “Magpul” model, which (shockingly) features a bunch of parts from Magpul.

I’ll close out the black rifle day with what is probably my favorite gun from SHOT SHOW 2009, which is also oddly neither black, nor a rifle. At the booth for Bul M-5, an Israeli handgun manufacturer (more on them later, actually) they had this wonder of tacticool awesome.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
It appears to be a CZ-75 clone outfitted with an extended, threaded barrel, a shoulder stock, a red dot sight, and a forward handgrip. The only way this could get more tactical would be if you fitted it with the Laserlyte pistol bayonet I mentioned in my Day 1 post. I have a ton more stuff from SHOT, including the 1911 porn, neat products from Charles Daley, Taurus, and much, much more.
Ruger Mini-14 Tactical
Sometimes, a picture that I thought wasn’t great turns out to be neat when you look at it with fresh eyes. The framing of the Mini-14 with the twin Charger pistols was unintentional, but still pretty neat.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
Unlike every other Ruger product at SHOT SHOW 2009, the Mini-14 Tactical pings pretty high on my “do want” list.
Aimpoint sight mount for Glocks
For you action pistol guys out there, one of the neater products I saw at SHOT SHOW 2009 was an Aimpoint mount for their “Micro” red dot sight which integrates with the existing dovetail on your Glock pistol. Just tap the old plastic sight out, and tap the new sight into place. It’s a pretty slick rig, as you can see from the picture.
From SHOT SHOW 2009
If you’re a Glock guy who is interesting in running a Glock as an Open gun, this may be a “no muss no fuss” solution for you.
New “Blackwater” Guns from Sig Sauer
Last year, Sig Sauer released a P226 Blackwater edition. At Shot Show 2009, they’ve updated and released a new version, the Sig Sauer P226 Blackwater Tactical. Check out the Gun Nuts Blog for more information and pictures of the P226 Blackwater Tactical.
A telling observation
At the ATI booth (the guys who import the .22 LR MP-5 clone), they had a booth bade. A very hot booth babe. No, I didn’t take a picture, because that’s not how I roll.
However, at the booth they also had several veterans of Easy Company (you know, the real Band of Brothers guys). I took the time to shake their hands and enjoy my moment with real heros. But I noticed that the line to meet the veterans of Easy Company was always shorter than the line to meet the booth babe.
Real sad.
