The DoD Brass Recap
In case you missed the show Tuesday night, here’s a handy recap of what went down with the destruction of brass situation. Also, make sure you pass the show on to your friends and family – we grow primarily through word of mouth, and are one of the top rated shows on BlogTalkRadio right now.
Concealed Carry Gear on a Budget
In the past, I’ve mentioned that I’ve got a drawer full of old holsters that I don’t use. In that drawer is a mishmash of old gear from all sorts of manufacturers, but what you won’t find in that drawer are holsters from Galco or holsters from Blackhawk, because I use those rigs. I first used a Galco rig when I was carrying a Ruger GP100, and since then they’ve been my favorite rig for leather holsters. I had a less than stellar experience with one of their plastic holsters, but I have absolutely no reservations about their leather gear. I think it’s affordable, quality gear, which is why at the Gun Nuts Radio Blog there is a post up spotlighting the Galco Paddle-Lite Concealed Carry Package.
For less than $80, you can get a leather holster, a magazine carrier, and reinforced leather gunbelt. It’s all the gear you need for concealed carry, or a great way to get started in IDPA for not a lot of money.
BJ Norris and an Open Division M&P
Paul Erhardt has an interview up with BJ Norris of Team S&W. BJ had mentioned wanting to build an M&P pistol for use in Open Division, and if you listen to the interview, you can see that he got his wish. Check out the full interview at Downrange.tv.
S&W – 6 million in handcuffs and counting
No, it’s not some Brady Campaign fantasy about arresting law-abiding gun owners. Smith & Wesson, the largest manufacturer of handcuffs in the nation has just minted their 6 millionth set of ‘cuffs.
Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced that after 30 years of manufacturing high quality handcuff restraints at its facility in Houlton, Maine, the company recently produced its six millionth pair of handcuffs. Used in service around the globe by law enforcement agencies, security divisions, and military organizations, Smith & Wesson handcuffs are the most widely produced and supplied restraints currently available.
A representative was unavailable for comment, however I was led to believe that none of the 6 million handcuffs were fluffy and pink.
Gun Show this weekend!
That’s right, for my Central Indiana readers, the Indy 1500 gun and knife show is this weekend. For some reason (possibly that I’m an idiot) I thought there was a bowling pin shoot this weekend as well, but that’s next weekend at Marion County Fish & Game.
If you want to squeeze some triggers before you head to the Fun Show, then check out Atlanta Conservation Club, my home range, and probably one of the best facilities in Central Indiana. This weekend is their monthly steel challenge match and the entry fee is a paltry 10 bucks. Just think about the shooty weekend you could have – Saturday morning, you head out to the range for a little clang-and-bang, then cruise over to the gun show afterwards to see how the Obama-inflated prices are doing, and if you’re me maybe pick up a couple of 1911 magazines.
Should be a good weekend!
Park Carry Suspended
Apparently, there is a judge out there with an anti-gun agenda:
Today, a federal district court in Washington, D.C. granted anti-gun plaintiffs a temporary restraining order against implementation of the new rule allowing concealed carry in national parks and national wildlife refuges.
Until further notice, individuals cannot legally carry loaded, concealed firearms for personal protection in national parks and wildlife refuges.
The court did grant NRA’s motion to intervene in the cases. Under federal law, NRA is entitled to an immediate appeal, and NRA will exercise that right.
Like the press release says, this is temporary. NRA is certainly going to appeal this, and obviously I’m hoping that they win. Park carry was a big deal – Indiana’s had State Park carry for a couple of years now, and yet somehow we’ve managed to avoid turning Turkey Run (a state park) into a shooting gallery.
House Democrats Oppose AWB
Yesterday, 65 House Democrats (including 2 from Indiana) signed a letter to AG Eric Holder stating their opposition to the renewal or creation of a new Assault Weapons Ban. Read the press release from NRA here. Sebastian has a good run down of the math this creates in the House:
Just to run the math for you, there are 178 Republicans in the House of Representatives under the 111th Congress. It takes 218 votes to pass a bill. That means with 65 Democrats on record as opposing a renewal of the ban, we can afford to lose 28 deadbeat Republicans on the vote, and Pelosi still would not have a majority to pass a renewal.
Now, we’re not out of the woods on this, not by a long shot. If you live in one of the districts represented by a Democrat that signed on to this letter, you need to contact your reps now and thank them for the support of the 2nd Amendment, and continue to maintain contact with that representative’s office so that in the event any sort of ban is proposed, they know on which side their bread is buttered.
Incurring the wrath of the saints
Look ma, heresy! Actually, it’s just me further expounding on why I’m loving the LDA trigger on my Para 7.45 so much that I’m getting another gun with the same trigger.
