I have a story I am dying to tell you

But I can’t, not just yet.  It’s tale of a law-abiding citizen getting railroaded by the government; watching as the government tries to literally destroy his career, and simply because a pencil-pusher didn’t like guns.  It is quite literally a David vs. Goliath story, and it’s reminder to gun owners that our justice system still does work.

But I can’t tell you the story yet.

Even Funnier Now

I blogged yesterday about Eric Thompson (of thegunsource.com) and the April Fool’s Prank he played on people who subscribe to his mailing list.  Well, Eric left me a note in the comments of that post, which was really the cherry on the perfect sundae of prank:

[I]t worked a little too well. Our servers got crushed and I received a call from the ATF DC office stating that they didn’t find it “that funny” considering all the calls they are getting.

I love that people were fooled enough by the prank to actually go an call the ATF to verify the news.  I literally laughed so hard I almost cried when I was reading that.  Anything that causes grief for the pencil pushers at ATF is okay with me.

Well played Eric, well played indeed.

Benelli Vinci Shotgun

The shotgun that was the subject of a lot of hype, rumor, and a pretty cool marketing campaign is finally here.  Say hello to the Benelli “Vinci”, the “next generation” of hunting shotguns:

The new Benelli Vinci marks a revolution in hunting shotguns. Benelli presents the fastest-shooting, softest-kicking, most reliable lightweight 12-gauge shotgun in the world. The innovative design of this semi auto shotgun raises the standard in firearms technology. Driven by a passion for efficiency and simplicity, Benelli engineers have advanced the cutting edge. The superbly balanced Vinci embodies a new way of looking at shotgun design. The revolutionary new In-Line Inertia Driven operating system, with superior reliability and lightning fast speed, is the simplest semi-auto shotgun operating system ever devised.

The new Vinci is available with either a 26 inch or a 28 inch barrel, in one of three finishes (realtree camo and tactical black are shown above). MSRP on the Vinci is around $1200-1300. Now if they’d only make a version with an 18 inch barrel and an extended magazine, I’d be really interested. However, if you’re looking for a soft recoiling 12 gauge shotgun for game, you probably won’t go wrong with the new Vinci, from Benelli.

Thanks to Steve at The Firearm Blog for the heads up.

Firearms TV on Gun Nuts Radio

It goes on and on and on! Last night’s Gun Nuts Radio was a fun show – especially for a show that essentially had no topic. Hit the link to listen to last night’s show, or if you’d like an .mp3 copy you can click here.

Last night, I did forget to mention our Sponsored book from Amazon.com: The Zombie Survival Guide. If you don’t own a copy of this book, you should. Not only is it a fun read, but there is actually some decent survival information in there. Although the gun stuff in the book is a little hit or miss, it’s still worth a few bucks.

One of the items that we only glanced off of was how firearms are often treated in media. Very rarely will you see a character in film or movies treat a firearm like it’s tool – often they (the firearms) are either revered or loathed. One of the best portrayals of a “proper” attitude towards firearms is Robert De Niro’s character in Ronin, when he says “it’s a tool”. That kind of candor towards guns is pretty rare in movies and TV these days.

Check out the show from last night. You won’t be disappointed. Also, go ahead and subscribe to Gun Nuts on iTunes. Click the link for instructions on how to do that!

Well Played, Eric

Eric Thompson, the owner of TopGlock.com and TheGunSource.com, that is.  A long time ago, I had the opportunity to interview Eric in the wake of the VA Tech shooting, as the LA Times was trying to destroy his reputation; he also receiving death threats.  At the time, Eric struck me as a pretty even keeled guy with a solid sense of humor, and it’s nice to see that I was right.

I get email updates from The Gun Source, so imagine my surprise when I saw one with the following text:

NFA laws have been repealed through a long standing court battle in the 7th US Circuit Court.  The president of TGSCOM had sued the federal government on the grounds that the NFA law violated the Second Amendment of the Constitution.  After heated and lengthy oral arguments, TGSCOM is now able to sell fully automatic weapons to the general public without tax stamps and the additional background check.  The one stipulation to the agreement is that fully automatic rifles will be treated like handguns in that they will require a purchaser of 21 and older, the firearm must be transferred in the state of their residence (same as handguns) and that the buyer must submit to all regulations in the state of their residence.

What this means for you
We will now be adding a limited number of fully automatic firearms to our inventory.  They will be sold on a first come first served basis. The benefit is that not only can you own them, but they do not have the $20,000 price tag they normally do.

California residents
Since this ruling is so new, there are no restrictions for California residents. Bet on the fact that they will be up to speed very quickly with reducing your Constitutional rights so take full advantage while you can!

In this email there’s a link to a shopping page where you can buy your full auto weapons.  Now, I saw this, and I can’t but help think “this is a trick”.  But you can click that link, and add a full rock and roll G36 to your shopping cart…and then all the full auto rifles take you to an error page.  It’s a pretty awesome April Fool’s prank as far as pranks go, so today on The Day of Fools I salute you, Eric Thompson.  Well played.

More on the Ruger LCR

GunBlast.com has a review of one of the “production” LCR revolvers.  I had a “hey I know that guy” moment when they mentioned Frank James.

The review itself is pretty straightforward, as the little Ruger does everything that you’d expect it to.  Although the fact that it produced a 3 inch group at 25 yards is a little startling, as that’s superb accuracy from such a little gun.  You can chalk that up to the fact that most guns are far more mechanically accurate than the average shooter can wring out of them.

I’m not really a “revolver” guy, but the ugly little Ruger has a lot of appeal to me.  I think it’s the fact that it is ugly as sin, and because parts of made of plastic which drives the wheelgun purists absolutely nuts.  I mean hey, I’ve already been cast out of the Church of JMB for my use of heretical fire control systems (which I love), I might as well get excommunicated by the Wheelgun Diocese while I’m at it, right?

When I played with the LCR at SHOT Show, I was very impressed by how light it was, and how even the trigger pull was on the demo models they had out. With the addition of a Crimson Trace Lasergrip, it really seems like it would make an excellent concealed carry gun.
