US Steel Nationals Recap

BJ Norris has a great recap of the US Steel Nationals at his blog. I’m sort of surprised that I haven’t been reading BJ’s blog all along, as it’s kind of a “look inside” the head of one of the top competitive shooters in the world. BJ just won his first centerfire division championship at US Steel Nationals in the Limited Division, and what’s scary is that he says “he’s not comfortable with iron sights”. Run that around in your heard a little bit, because he’s one of those “All-Galaxy” class shooters, and he says that he’s not comfortable with iron sights.

Congratulations to BJ, Max Michel, and Dave Sevigny for their wins at the US Steel Nationals.

Gun Nuts Tonight: Entertainment Tonight!

On Gun Nuts Radio, live tonight at 9pm Eastern we’re going to be aping one of those horrible “Entertainment news” shows.  I’m kidding, of course.  Gun Nuts Radio will never turn into one of those things, but what we will be doing on tonight’s show is talking about our favorite firearms media: books, movies, and TV.  Tonight should be a pretty call-in heavy show, as we want to hear what gun-related media you enjoy – fiction or non, we don’t care.

As always, the call in number for tonight’s show is 347-539-5436.  We’ll be wanting you, our listeners to call in and join the discussion live!  Also, in a departure from the last two weeks, Breda will be hosting the show live from our new Webcam, that we use as a Featured host with Blog Talk Radio.  That’s tonight at 9pm Eastern Time, live at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts!

Horrible Russian Glock Thing

You know, I’ve always had an appreciation for Russian firearms.  Not because they’re good, but because the Russians have an excellent knack for taking other people’s ideas, and making them ugly and clunky looking.

Witness the GSh-18, which is sort of like the horrible bastard child or a Glock and an FN Five-seveN.  “The safety is on the trigger” and it fires a round capable of defeating body armor.  Also, I am digging the Russian stock PR footage of the guy dual-weilding these things as he aimlessly blazes off rounds at some sort of terrorist.

Coasties Attending SEAL School

That’s not a typo.  From Navy Times, courtesy of reader Brandon, I have discovered that 4 Coast Guard Officers are attending SEAL School in Coronado, CA.

All four completed the two-week Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL preparatory course and the three-week orientation course.

The four officers are: Lt. j.g. Brian Bruns, Civil Engineering Unit Miami; Lt. j.g. Brian Naughton, Coast Guard District 7, Lt. j.g. Sean Norton, cutter Steadfast; and Ensign Matthew O’Loughlin, cutter Boutwell.

If they succesfully complete the program, they will become the first Coasties ever to become SEALs; they’ll be deployed with SEAL teams just as though they were in the Navy, although their official department will still be the US Coast Guard.  Once they complete their rotation in the teams, Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen said that he’d “like them to return to the Coast Guard”.  I’d imagine that a rotation with the SEALs would impart a lot of knowledge to these young officers that the Coast Guard would benefit from.

Good luck to these young officers – you’re going to need it.
