Do want

Tam has a weakness for WWII films, saying that “any movie featuring dead Nazis and machine-guns is a good movie”.  I agree, but that’s not my particular weakness – I have a weakness for action films set in the 20-30s period myself.  Trench guns, Thompson SMGs, WWI Colts, and all the revolvers you could ask for…which is why I’m actually going to drag myself to a theatre this weekend and see the new Michael Mann film, Public Enemies.  Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and loads and loads of Tommy guns?  All directed by Michael Mann, the guy who directs pretty much the best gunfights ever captured on film?  Yes please.

Politics!

Protip: don’t try and run Israeli Naval blockades.  I suppose, if I were a retard, I would be all up in arms about the Israeli government detaining an American citizen…but then I remeber that 1) it’s Cynthia McKinney, and 2) she was in violation of Israeli law, so all bets are off.  The real jewel in the article is this line though:

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor has said Israel was planning to free the crew and passengers.

“Nobody wants to keep them here,” he said earlier this week.

I’d like to think that just after he said that, he walked off stage and muttered under his breath “seriously, this bitch is crazy, I can’t wait to get rid of her ass.”

Gun Blog Rankings

I noticed this site yesterday, which uses an aggregate scoring system to rank gun blogs based on Google Page rank, RSS subscribers, technorati rank (I’m not even indexed in Technorati), etc to determine the “top 25 gun blogs”.  I also noticed that GunNuts.Net wasn’t in their rankings, so I submitted it yesterday, and now I’m number 9.

It’s kind of cool, plus we all know that every blogger loves getting his or her ego stroked – I mean, blogging is essentially talking to yourself in public, so it takes a certain amount of narcissism to do this.

Shooting Sports News

A couple of fun items from around the web.

Pro shooter and amateur comedian (I kid, I kid) Phil Strader has signed with Team Smith & Wesson.

Speaking of Team S&W, Julie Golob was awarded the High Master classification in NRA Action Pistol for her performance at Bianchi Cup.

Watched Cowboys on Outdoor Channel last night. I’m digging the new style of the show, and Tupelo Flash was born to be the host of that show. Last night’s episode was neat, it primarily was a profile of Jessie Abbate of Team Glock, who when she’s not winning Steel Challenge is winning every Western 3-gun event in sight.

We’re just a little over a month away from Steel Challenge, which means I need to get my entry form submitted if I’m going to make it to the match.

It’s a good time to be playing gun games!

Daniel Defense DDXV Carbine

Daniel Defense, makers of AR15 parts and accessories as well as the DDM4 carbine have unvieled their latest rifle, the DDXV (“XV” would be the Roman numerals for “15”, very clever).  The DDXV was shown to the public at a Lucas Oil Racing event in California, where race fans were able to view and handle the new carbine.  Here’s one of the interesting bits from Daniel Defense’s press release:

Representatives from Rifle Gear, a local firearms dealer in Costa Mesa, CA (www.riflegear.com) were on hand to clearly explain and help California residents understand the particular accommodations that must be made in order to comply with state laws and regulations. Both Daniel Defense and Rifle Gear were assisted greatly by the Calguns Foundation (www.calguns.net). Calguns Foundation graciously contributed materials that educated adults and children alike about safe, responsible firearms ownership in California.

It’s a bummer that residents of California are not trusted enough by their elected representatives to own the new DDXV.

Back to the rifle though – the Daniel Defens DDXV is their “entry level” platform, and as such comes with the following features:

  • Standard Mil-Spec upper and lower
  • enhanced magazine well
  • Daniel Defense AR15 BUIS
  • Magpul PMAG
  • A2 flash hider

Don’t worry, I’m not going to tease you with all this AR talk and not give you a pic.

DDXV PROMOTION PIC

Looks like this will make a nice starter AR for someone looking to build a platform, or to just burn up a bunch of .223 softpoint ammo for giggles.

Curse you, Brownells

I always loved that in the old movies when the villian would say “Curse you, #HERO!”  To this day, it makes me laugh to say that.  Now, when I apply it to Brownells, please don’t think I’m mad at Brownells or anything…no, far from it.  It’s just that their new website is so freakin’ easy to use that I keep BUYING STUFF.  Sights, moonclips, Pachmayr grips…I thought I could buy a lot of geegaws for my 1911?  This “revolver” rabbit hole goes even deeper.

Today, I am a sad panda

My new Miculek grips and HiViz sight for my 625 came yesterday…and the grips have a small crack in them, so they’re going back to the company I bought them from.  I should have been smart and bought everything from Brownells, but nooooooo I had to go shopping for a better deal.

I am also sad because I don’t have the right size punch to change the front sight on my gun…but I know someone who might…

For the record, I thought I had the right sized punch, turns out the that pin is a lot smaller than I thought it was for some reason.  Live and learn I suppose, although I’m glad the PC 646 has the “quick change” front sight on it.
