I’ve got a post up at the Shooter’s Log on what ammo to carry in your defensive revolver. I’m a big fan of the J-frame for carry, but the abbreviated barrel length means you need to select your defensive ammo with care.

No sweat.
Take a bunch of different stuff to the range at night and see what how the lowest flash. The European stuff usually contains flash suppressant, but I carry Speer Gold Dots. Others like the heaviest bullet that they can get.
It’s guns, man–the subjective is objective.
Hornady Critical Defense. Consistent expansion no matter what caliber and through denim too.
Buffalo Bore standard pressure 158 lswchp.
Very accurate, shoot to point of aim in my gun.
Carry a 45, expansion is a bonus, the round is big enuf to do a world of hurt with ball rounds!
BTW, I know a guy who was shot with a 45ACP in the trauma plate of his vest, it still knocked him out and gave him a 2 week hospital stay. His chest looked like someone hit him with a sledgehammer!
