One of the things I’m doing wrong is how I set up for the first three targets. I could have set up in one position and taken the target through the port and the other targets that I had to shift my feet to engage.

Project Para, part 2: Fixing the sights
by Caleb •
This was not a triumph. I attempted to use the Brownells sight pusher tool to remove the rear sight on the ParaUSA GI Expert…and failed. The rear sight is pressed so firmly into the dovetail that it would not move…
Project Para: Step 1
by Caleb •
Through the upcoming weeks I’m going to be documenting the project of working on this Para GI Expert to bring it up. Each entry will have a photo, a description of the work performed, and the time it took to do the work.
Step 1: Field Strip and inspect for major issues.
Time: 10 minutes.
No major issues documented.
1911 ratings list

Our 1911 rating system here at Gun Nuts has a considerable amount of data fed into it from shooting competition and taking classes over the years. Thanks to that, I can actually compile a fairly comprehensive list of 1911s and…
1911 Reliability: Para vs. Colt
by Caleb •
Working on some dry fire yesterday, I discovered that my new ParUSA GI Expert wouldn’t reliably perform a slidelock reload with my match ammo.
The most useful thing in my range bag

A Wilson Combat 1911 tool, which was a gift from Tam. I still have no idea why Wilson stopped making these.
Photo of the day: Frames

Other than the cosmetic things such as triggers, hammers, and safeties; or the difference in ejectors that I pointed out, can you identify the major structural difference between the Colt frame (left) and the Para frame?
1911s are not like LEGO
by Caleb •
I had an idea this morning to pop the slide off one of my Colts and throw it on the Para’s frame, because two-tone 1911s where the slide is blue and the frame is stainless look sexy. My plan is…
Photo of the day: ParaUSA GI Expert

There’s a part of me that wants to take this gun and try and convert it into .38 Super. This is likely because I’m feeling waaaaay overconfident after successfully performing basic armorer’s tasks on my Colts. And since it’s a Para I’m not going to lose much if I mess it up.
1911 Carry System
by Caleb •
I’ve been carrying a full size 1911 as my EDC for over four months now, and I’ve come to one conclusion. OWB carry with a good holster is awesome. I’ve been using the Praetor Defense holster and magazine pouch for all my carry needs, and since it’s been winter the whole time, I’ve not yet needed to come up with a solution for how to OWB carry during the summer. I’m thinking “Hawaiian shirts”, but I’m worried that if I start doing that I’ll have a sudden compulsion to buy a Ferrari 308 GTS. That being said, as OWB holsters go, the Praetor Defense is excellent.
