Barak Obama is a tool

There, I said it. I have been trying really hard to not just say what I think about this guy, but in light of his most recent comments on rural gun owners, I’ve pretty much had it.

“There are a whole bunch of folks in small towns in Pennsylvania, in towns right here in Indiana, in my home town in Illinois, who are bitter. They are angry… So I said, well ya know, when you’re bitter, you turn to what you can count on. So people, ya know they vote about guns or they take comfort from their faith, and their family, and their community, and they get mad about illegal immigrants who are coming over to this country, or they get frustrated about how things are changing. That’s a natural response.”

Screw you buddy. Notice how in this statement he equates taking refuge and comfort from your family, community, and faith is tantamount to being a bitter racist. You know what? Indiana’s primary is an open primary you elitist bastard, and you’ve managed to piss me off so much that I’m actually considering a vote for Hillary. Do you have any idea how angry I’d have to be to want to vote for her?

Just so I’m clear, when I “take comfort from my faith” it’s a bad thing, but when you attend a racist, bigoted church for 20 years it’s totally okay because your grandmother was a racist?

Hillary: Irrelevant

You could take that a little out of context – but it kind of works both ways. What it’s referring to is the statement from Hillary about the last time she actually fired a gun, which she says is “irrelevant”.

After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun…”is not a relevant question in this debate”

This is in direct response to her statements on Saturday where she was pandering to gun owners and trying to play herself off as someone who respected gun rights. Now, in a shocking development, I’m actually going to agree with Hillary that the last time she fired a gun is irrelevant – because any childhood or otherwise gun use has been completely overshadowed by her rabid anti-gun policies as First Lady and in the US Senate.

So yes, the last time she used a gun is irrelevant, because Hillary has made her stance on guns abundantly clear on multiple occasions.

Hillary pandering to gun owners

I suppose that in light of John Kerry stunts in ’04 combined with Obama’s recent statements about how gun owners are “bitter” that it was inevitable that Hillary would end up trying to play herself as a “lifelong shooter”.

“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught be how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said.

Of course, she then touted her husband’s signing of the Assault Weapons Ban as her being tough on crime.

The most interesting thing about this is that it shows how powerful the pro-gun vote is – that the Democratic candidate with a history of being against the right to keep and bear arms is now pandering and desperately trying to win over that voting block.

Protip: Don’t be that guy

Rachel Lucas linked to the Women and Guns podcast in her post here.  She then talked about bad range experiences she had where essentially complete strangers would come up and offer her advice on her form, even when her targets were better than the man’s target.

I’ve seen this as well, often well-meaning guys will offer advice to women on the range, and it just comes off poorly.  Seriously, don’t be that guy.  No one likes that guy.  If someone asks you for help, by all means help them out, but don’t offer unsolicited advice to strangers, especially women because it only furthers the negative “boys club” stereotype that a lot of people have about shooting ranges.

The one caveat is if something unsafe is going down – and then only if an actual Range Officer isn’t there to deal with the situation.  Even then, politeness is key, don’t be a dick about it.

The last thing I want to do is turn anyone off to the shooting sports, or to make someone feel so uncomfortable that they don’t come back to the range.  By doing that, you’re alienating a shooter, which means she’s not coming to the range (and spending money) which means she’s not shooting as much (and spending money on ammo) which hurts out sport.

Philly passes illegal gun laws

Philadelphia has passed the gun control measures that were before the City Council, and Mayor Nutter has signed them. Remember, these laws are illegal, as Pennsylvania is a preemption state where localities such as Philadelphia cannot pass laws which would run contrary to established state laws.

Sebastian has drawn his line in the sand:

I have absolutely no intention of obeying any of these city ordinances, and I can promise a lawsuit if they attempt to enforce them in violation of the laws of this commonwealth. Get ready folks, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

If you’re a resident of PA, I encourage you to follow his lead – this bills are are in violation of state law and need to be challenged at the state level and overturned…just like Prop H in San Francisco. If gun owners can win on the People’s Republic of California, we need to be able to win in Pennsylvania.

Protip: Get involved

It most definitely is.  I believe 2008 is either going to be the year we will look back on as the pivotal year that sent the gun control movement to join the temperance movement in the dungeon of political irrelevance, or it will be the year when gun owners snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.  Which path we take is entirely up to us.

From Sebastian, commenting on Chris Cox’s belief that 2008 is going to the pivotal election year for gun owners.

Doubt removed

I was on the fence about whether the TSA’s silly rules about FFDO carry had caused the negligent discharge that everyone’s been talking about, until I saw this video.

The holster that you see is actually pretty similar to belt holster I use for regular carry, and I have managed to undo the retention strap on accident with my elbow while driving.  The set of circumstances that you see in the video really aren’t all that far-fetched.

More Ahab than you can stand

I had the opportunity to appear on “Field Guide to American Politics” with Duane Lester yesterday evening. You can listen to the audio from the post here at All American Blogger.

It’s about 20 minutes, and we covered a pretty broad range of topics from the candidates and the Second Amendment to Buy-A-Gun day and pretty much everything in between. If you’ve noticed, I’ve also added All American Blogger to my reciprocal blogroll, so you can click over there and check them out.
