Air Force Test Fires Laser

That headline is not a joke.  At Edwards Air Force base, 20 minutes from where I grew up, the Air Force has test fired their anti-missile chemical laser.

The test of the high-energy chemical laser was conducted Sunday by the contractors and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the company said.

“The program remains on track to reach the missile shoot-down demonstration planned for 2009,” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems.

I’ve known about the Air Force laser program for a while now, but the fact that they’re actually testing it and firing the laser pretty much makes my day.  We’re still a long way off from X-Wings, but for some reason the concept of actually mounting functional laser weapons on aircraft makes me all tingly.

STEEL, BABY, STEEL

Friday Night Steel is tomorrow night at Marion County Fish and Game!  Very excited to go, especially since I got my new magazines for my Para 16-40 in the mail yesterday.  The 18 round magazine looks pretty sweet.

The match starts around 6:00ish, but it’s a good idea to show up around 5:30 so you can get registered and get squadded up.  I think I might have gotten the kinks worked out of my other magazines as well, and the steel match will be a pretty good opportunity to try them out.

Definitely come out to tomorrow night for the match.  Nothing beats a little clang-and-bang for sheer fun and entertainment.  I’ll probably even bring one of my rimfire pistols just for giggles.

9-11

I wrote this post a year ago – and I think it’s an ideal time to resurrect it.  June of ’07, Purdue University released a study which was the combined results of the collaboration of the best and the brightest in the engineering fields at Purdue.  The result of this study was essentially a “STFU” to the 9-11 truthers, who are assholes anyway.

My post was called Purdue University Sticks it to 9-11 Truthers.  Sadly, it’s just as relevant today, because there are still people who cling to the delusion that the twin towers were brought down by a controlled detonation.  You can read the entire original post by clicking the link, and I’ve also included the original text below the jump.

Smart guns

Robb takes the concept of smart guns to the woodshed.

I can say I had thought that smart guns were a neat idea in theory, but the practical application of a neat idea almost never works out correctly.  In this case, it would work out in such a way as to provide a gateway to deprive millions of law-abiding citizens the right to keep and bear arms.

More on the Mags

I want to say thanks to my readers who have pointed out some solid information about Mec-Gar magazines which makes me much more comfortable ordering them.  As of right now, I have three factory mags from Para (one 10-round magazine and two 16-round mags), and on order I have 1 10-round Pro-Mag, 1-16 round MecGar magazine, and one 18-round MecGar magazine.

I’m eagerly looking forward to them showing up at my house so I can burn up some more .40 S&W ammo.

Thanks again to everyone who pointed out that I was on crack about not trusting MecGar.

USPSA Nationals

Loads of coverage at Michael Bane’s Downrange.tv – score reports, and a video with Jessie Abbate.

Congratulations to the winners so far:

  • Limited Division: Sgt Travis Thomasie, AMU
  • Revolver Division: Jerry Miculek (surprised?)
  • Production Division: Robert Vogel
  •  Women’s Production: Randi Rogers, Team Glock
  • Women’s Limited Division: Jessie Abbate, Team Glock

It’s been a good year for USPSA, they’ve received a ton of positive media attention on the Nationals, and the matches themselves have been excellent.  Congratulations to the winners so far!

Gun Nuts Radio: Hasta La Vista, Bonnie

Man, I cannot resist throwing in a Terminator reference at 0900.

Last night’s show was a little bittersweet for a lot of us, since it was Bonnie’s last show for a while.  We talked a lot of different topics, things she’d learned from the show, her favorite show, a little Sarah Palin, and then eventually we were rescued by Stanger73, one of our regular listeners, who called in to ask about Glocks and 1911s.

You can listen to the archive of the show here, or by clicking on the player below, or by downloading the .mp3 file.

Bonnie will be missed – she added something different to the show, something not quite as gun-nutty as me, which created a good balance for the topics.

As a promo for next week’s show, I want to remind everyone that we’re going to be moving to a 9pm Eastern time slot – no more 11pm shows for me, thank god. Starting this upcoming Tuesday the 16th, we’ll be moving to 9pm. For our first 9pm show, we’ll be featuring an interview with Dan Smith, the VP of Operations for International Cartridge Corporation. Dan will be talking to us about developments in frangible ammunition technology for training, law enforcement and self defense. This is a real “Gun Nuts” kind of show – if you don’t tune in you’ll miss out.

Remember, the new time slot is 9pm Eastern, but we’re at the same address: www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts. See you next week!

Why don’t these dumb, cousin humping rednecks vote for us?

Sorry for the long title, but does anyone else feel like that is the theme coming from the Democrat party lately?  I mean aside from the actual physical desperation that you can feel coming off Obama and Biden, which culminated in some of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard politicians say.  First off was Greasy Joe Biden saying that the Democrats care waaaaaaaaaaay more about special needs families than the Republicans – always keeping it classy, Joe.

But the real kicker, and the reason for the title of this article was when a Democratic party rep said that “Wal-Mart Moms” (a derogatory term all by itself) who are the key demographic for this election are racist and uneducated.  Think I’m kidding?  Check out the article in Time:

Democratic pollster Celinda Lake calls them “Wal-Mart moms” and “Wal-Mart grandmas” and says they are not so much undecided as conflicted in making their choice this year.

And there could be another factor, one that is harder for pollsters to measure. “They are more racially sensitive, honestly,” than younger and more educated women, says Lake.

So maybe I should have titled this post “Why won’t those stupid, poor, racists vote for us” – because that’s exactly the message that you’re getting from the Democrat party right.  You can just feel the contempt dripping off those quotes from Celinda Lake.

I’m not even going to mention beyond this sentence Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” remark.  It was just so stupid and poorly thought out that I couldn’t believe he had actually said it.

This is what the election has come down to this year – the Democrat party desparately needs the votes of moderate middle class white women, and now they’ve called those moderate, middle class white women a bunch of uneducated, poor, racists.
