Everything old is new again

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership has released a new* report on assault weapons.  That link goes to their presser about their new* report on assault weapons, which links to the actual .pdf of the report itself.  I’d download it and host it here, but I don’t want to sully my webspace with that.

The new report does contain a quote from Jim Zumbo, which doesn’t really surprise me.  Any time that the anti-gun factions can get their hands on a quote by a hook-and-bullet writer about how “ebbbilll” assault weapons are, they’re going to take it and run run run with it.  Of course, it doesn’t really matter to them that Zumbo since recanted and has embraced the black rifle.

*Note: “New” in this case means “the same lines we’ve been spouting since 1992, but now we have quotes from Jim Zumbo instead of David Petzal.

My sporting dollar

A friend of mine recently asked me why I bought my ammo at Gander Mountain, instead of going to Wal-Mart or Meier where I would pay $2-4 less per box than I pay at Gander Mountain.

It’s actually a pretty straightforward decision for me – I know that Gander Mountain supports my right to keep and bear arms from both a financial and political standpoint.  The same goes for Cabelas and MidwayUSA – two more places where I pay more for ammo than I would at WallyWorld.

Wal-Mart (as an example)  has gotten into bed with Mayor Bloomberg of New York, doing that meant that they lost my sporting dollars forever.  Meier I have no specific beef with, but I don’t know what their stance on the 2nd Amendment is, so why risk it?  I’d rather that money go somewhere I know it will support the shooting sports than take a chance that I’m just lining the pockets of some anti-gun executive.

Voting with your dollars is a key part of being a gun owner and sportsman.  The firearms industry generates more annual revenue that the golf industry; literally billions of dollars are spent every year on guns, ammo, and accessories.  When you take those billions of dollars and push them to companies like Gander Mountain or MidwayUSA, you know that your money isn’t going to wind up in Mayor Bloomberg’s hands.

Steel, baby, Steel!

Bring out your blasters for tonight’s Steel match at Marion County Fish & Game!  As usual, shooter’s meeting is at 1800, with the goal being to start blasting at 1815.

Last week I made the mistake of running two guns, a rimfire and my Para 16-40; because I’m not that good, it was difficult for me to make the transition from rimfire to .40 S&W and still stay focused on what I needed to do to make good hits on steel.  This week, I’m just running one gun: my Para LTC Gun Blog 9mm.  I’ve shot lots and lots of BBs out of this gun, and since it shares a common operating system with my Para P16, I feel pretty comfortable using it as a practice gun for the upcoming IDPA State Championship match.

I hope to see you guys at MCF&G tonight – bring lots of bullets, but most importantly, have lots of fun!

Even more voter fraud

This is getting ridiculous.  Is there a single place where these ACORN guys worked that didn’t have serious acts of voter fraud committed?

More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana’s Lake County by a liberal activist group this week have turned out to be bogus, election officials said Thursday.

Over the past four years, a dozen states have investigated complaints of fraudulent registrations filed by ACORN. On Tuesday, Nevada authorities raided an ACORN office in Las Vegas, Nevada, where workers are accused of registering members of the Dallas Cowboys football team. And the group has become the target of Republican attacks on voter fraud, a perennial GOP issue.

A subsidiary of the group was paid $800,000 by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama‘s campaign to register voters for the 2008 primaries, and ACORN’s political wing endorsed Obama back in February.

I should write a song called “victory at all cost” or something, because I honestly don’t know how to respond to this sort of thing any more.  Mrs. Ahab and I were talking about it yesterday on the drive home, and the only conclusion we can come to is that the people doing all this honestly believe that they know what’s best for us, and so that justifies (in their minds) breaking the law so that their guy can win.  It’s actually terrifying when I think about it; because it matches a level of zeal and fervor that I had only previously encountered in religious fanatics.

NRA Endorses John McCain

Presser from NRA-PVF here.

John McCain voted for the landmark Firearms Owners Protection Act and the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, opposed the failed Clinton Gun Ban, and voted against mandatory waiting periods, national gun registration, and bans on hunting ammunition. He also signed the historic congressional amicus brief in the case of Heller v. District of Columbia, holding that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms — a brief that Senator Obama refused to sign.

Obama Campaign Steals from NSSF

A little background to this story – back on National Hunting and Fishing Day, I received an email from the campaign of Barack Obama which contained a statement on National Hunting and Fishing Day.  It was pretty much the same old story of him saying that he plans to preserve our sporting heritage and the right to keep and bear arms, etc.  After I read it, I thought “huh, he’s really going after ‘the gun vote’ “, and then put it out of my mind.  It never occurred to me to think about how exactly the Obama campaign had gotten my personal email address.

Well, it turns out that they got my personal email address by stealing it from the National Shooting Sports Federation.

The Obama campaign in Indiana, on September 27, unlawfully obtained and made unauthorized use of a proprietary media list belonging to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the trade association for the firearms industry.  Sen. Obama used this list to e-mail a press release concerning National Hunting and Fishing Day.  Earlier today, NSSF sent a “cease and desist” letter to the Obama campaign demanding that they immediately stop any further unauthorized misuse of its proprietary media list.

The list contains the names and addresses of members of the media that attended the NSSF Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show) – the world’s largest firearms trade show and the 23rd largest trade show of any kind in North America.

The list can only be obtained from NSSF and its use is tightly controlled by NSSF.  Neither the Obama campaign, nor its operations in Indiana, obtained any rights from NSSF to use the list.

NSSF’s letter also demands that the Obama campaign destroy all copies of the list, identify how they obtained the list and pay monetary damages to NSSF for its misappropriation and unauthorized use of the association’s intellectual property.  NSSF demanded an immediate response from the Obama campaign and has threatened to file a lawsuit against the campaign if its demands are not met.

“NSSF will not sit idly by while its legal rights are harmed, particularly for partisan political gain,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.
NSSF is also encouraging all sportsmen and gun-owners to visit the NSSF Voter Education Web-site and educate themselves about the candidates’ records and positions on issues important to them in this election.

This is the third post I’ve written today about shady and possibly illegal tactics used by the Obama campaign to try and win this election.  The NSSF views their mailing list as a trade secret, and the misappropriation of a trade secret is a federal crime under the Economic Espionage Act, assuming that someone at the Obama campaign fraudulently obtained the list from NSSF.

So, now on top of voter fraud, we now have the Obama campaign stealing trade secrets from NSSF.  I really can’t imagine what’s next – I mean, what do you graduate to after voter fraud and felonies?  Do you just start having your minions attack Republican voters on Election Day?

The only other thing I can take away from this is that it really reveals how desperate Obama’s campaign is to get “the gun vote”;  they’re willing to steal NSSF’s proprietary mailing list and risk legal action for what, to send a statement that was probably widely ignored and dismissed by the gun and outdoor writers that received it.
