On my way to Shot Show 2009 – watch this space for updates and pictures!
On the road again
Well, I’m sitting in the new airport at Indy waiting for my flight, so far the snow doesn’t seem to have delayed anything. Oh my god, some idiot just set off the damn security alarm, which is a truly awful noise.
Back to the topic at hand, I decided after much deliberation to not check a gun with me. This was due to several factors, not the least of which war my realization that I don’t have a lockable hard case that fits in my small suitcase. C’est la vie, but I’ll still see you at the show!
One more SHOT Thought
Videos! I will be posting videos from SHOT SHOW 2009 as well, which can be viewed by hitting the Gun Nuts TV Youtube Channel. I should be able to link everything here as well, however make sure to check Gun Nuts TV on Youtube.
HK says
“You suck a little less and we hate you just a little less”.
Civilian versions of the HK 416 and HK 417 to be available soon! Now I have to stop at the HK booth at SHOT to snag pictures and fondle these guns as well. Just when I was about to write those guys off, they go and do something cool like this.
High-ho, high-ho
It’s off to SHOT I go!
Last day before SHOT officially kicks off tomorrow, I’ll be flying into Orlando tonight. Starting on Thursday, we’ll have daily updates posted both here at Call me Ahab as well as at the Gun Nuts Radio Blog. In addition to the “every day coverage”, I’m planning several “specials” if you will – an all 1911 post, an all EBR post, etc. The nice thing about this modern age is that both of my cellphones will allow me to post from wherever I am as long as I can get a signal, my laptop has wi-fi, and I’ve got two memory cards for my camera. SHOT SHOW 2009 is going to be fantastic – the recent industry trends combined with a consumer market eager for more black guns and more high-cap pistols means that if you’re a fan of tactical goodies, this is going to be the show for you. I’ll even through a bone to our hunting buddies and swing by the T/C Encore booth or something.

NRA Action Pistol on Gun Nuts Radio
Last night on Gun Nuts Radio, we had Tom Hughes, the Action Pistol coordinator for NRA on the show to talk about the 30th Anniversary of Bianchi Cup, and Action Pistol in general. Click here to listen to the archive copy of our NRA Action Pistol show.
As usual, you can also download an .mp3 copy of the show by clicking on the link, so you can take the show with you wherever you go. Also, you can now subscribe to Gun Nuts Radio on iTunes or your Zune player by adding our RSS Feed to your podcast subscriptions. Click this post for instructions on how to add us to your iTunes podcast subscriptions.
Last night’s show was one of my favorites that we’ve done – while I enjoy the political and activism shows, at my heart I’m a shooter first and an activist second, so talking about the games I love really brings out the best parts of the show for me. Tom was excellent as well – if you’re looking for a resource to get a into NRA Action Pistol shooting, last night’s show would be an excellent primer for anyone.
NRA Multi-Gun Matches
NRA is now sanctioning 3-gun/multi-gun action shooting matches. The words “sweet” and “awesome” come to mind when I read stuff like this.
“The Special Committee on Multi-Gun Competitions will assist the NRA in developing rules for the competition, developing the stages of fire necessary to run an NRA-sanctioned competition, and training NRA staff to better serve three-gun competitors,” offered Mike Krei, Director of the NRA’s Competitive Shooting Division.
I tell you, with last night’s Gun Nuts Radio show on Bianchi Cup, and now this – it’s like the Action Shooting Gods are dropping blessing after blessing into my plate.
I swear
It’s like Indiana is conspiring to keep me here. Snow on the day I’m supposed to leave for SHOT SHOW 2009? Unacceptable.
Although from looking at the radar, it looks like we’re almost clear of the bad stuff, provided that the tail of the storm that’s hovering around Peoria, IL doesn’t swing south and pound us. I cannot wait to be in Florida.
S&W to Provide pistols for S. Australian PD
S&W has been contracted by the South Australian Police Force to provide its 4,000 officers with their M&P .40 pistols. From The Tactical Wire:
SAPOL conducted a field trial during 2008 in which 502 operational country and metropolitan police officers received training in the safe handling and use of the M&P pistol and carried the firearm in an operational environment. Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Burns, said, “Feedback from our officers was very positive and they welcome the introduction of the semi-automatic M&P40. The M&P40 has a number of enhanced features and is a good fit for policing purposes in South Australia. It will replace the Smith & Wesson .357 revolver which was previously standard issue.”
The M&P pistol is rapidly catching on across the world, and is beginning to give the Glock a run for it’s money as “the” polymer pistol. While Glock still enjoys the lion’s share of the market, thanks to the M&P from Smith & Wesson and other polymer entries from gun companies, Glock can’t just sit back and rest on their laurels. This is a good thing for gun owners, and a good thing for the market – more products and more competition is a good thing.
