Ruger “Inaugural Special”

Ruger is offering a special deal on 20 round magazines for their Mini-14 line of rifles:

Southport, Connecticut- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR) announces an “Inaugural Special” for Mini-14® 20-round magazines that runs from Election Day to Inauguration Day.

From November 4, 2008 to January 20, 2009, fans of the Ruger® Mini-14 Target Rifles and Mini-14 Ranch Rifles, both chambered for .223 Remington, can purchase Ruger manufactured 20-round magazines (regularly priced at $39.95) for only $29.95. This special offer is only available through the Ruger On-line Store at Please note that these magazines are not available where state or local regulations limit magazine capacity to less than 20 rounds.

If you have a Mini-14, this is a pretty spiffy on the factory manufactured magazines.  High capacity magazines are going to be in strong demand for quite some time.  If you own a Mini-14 (which, by the way, is an excellent choice for someone looking for an EBR on a budget), then now would be a good time to stock up on magazines for it.

I was looking around online, and I cannot find STANAG (AR15) magazines anywhere – MidwayUSA is out of stock, which has never happened before.  Gun sales, ammo sales, and sales of accessories are absolutely through the roof right now.  If you’re looking, I’d wait until the frenzy dies down a little bit and people have settled down, then make your purchases.  You’re going to see a lot of crazy inflated prices right now, so a little patience never hurt anyone.

  1. Of course they are out of stock.
There also is no reason not to ship mags to the cities in Ohio, as HB347 changed that in March of 2007

  2. Josh Sugarmann is trying to imply that this special is to encourage assassination attempts and to ‘stoke fears’.

Then he goes on to talk about McVeigh.

  3. Well, I just purchased a Mini-14 Target under a promotion that gave me one 20-rnd mag free and allowed me to purchase two more at the $29.99. Which I did…

Now I have a 20% discount via Ruger. Which will let me get the 20-rnd mags for about $25. That’s a pretty good deal.

I am also thinking of buying some 10/22 mags.

  4. Ruger had announced the inaugural special some time before the election. It’s not a reaction to any particular candidate being elected…but it probably is a rather savvy way to get a few more sales during this period of increased gun sales. If McCain won the election, Ruger would still have the promotion.

Sugarmann is clearly being a bit…irrational.

That said, if you’re looking for AR magazines, this offering from MidwayUSA is excellent. They’re made by C-Products. If you have a C&R or otherwise get dealer discounts, you can get them for ~$10 each, a savings of nearly $8 each.
