Last week Caleb gave me a very warm introduction to the Gun Nuts community. I’m so grateful to him for inviting me to be part of the team. Being part of such a well respected media outlet is an honor for me, especially because I have been shooting for only two short years. My site, ArmedCandy, was started as a personal diary to keep track of all the great advice I was receiving as a new gun-girl. It has now become my passion and the goal of my site, to welcome new shooters into the fold.
Caleb did a pretty good job giving you a brief background on me, but I bet you have a few more questions. I’ll do my best to answer some of the biggies below, but feel free to comment with more. I always say, “You can ask me anything you want, I reserve the right not to answer.” 😉
Who is this Gabby girl?
I grew up in New York City. (I just heard each of you quoting that salsa commercial as you read that last sentence.) I was living in Texas the first time I saw one of these bumper stickers I thought it had been specially made, just for me. I now live in Atlanta, Georgia and I’m sure that I was just born in the wrong state.
As I said, I haven’t been in the gun world for very long, and obviously I didn’t grow up around firearms, but I feel oddly comfortable within this community. I also feel I am uniquely built to speak to, and for, those who are not typical gun folks, or who are hesitant to try out the shooting sports. This is also one of the goals of the ArmedCandy Blog.
Why write for GunNuts too?
As I have explored my new hobby, much of what I’ve learned spills outside of ArmedCandy’s scope. Where my blog’s goal is to simplify and be accessible to anyone who wants to explore the gun world, Gun Nuts is for those of us who are passionate about firearms and are proud of it. It’s not possible to stay a “newbie” forever. So maybe, by joining Team Gun Nuts, I’m signaling that I’m no longer a beginner. If that’s the case, by looking around at my new colleagues, it seems I’ve been fast tracked. I promise to do my absolute best to keep up!
What is your favorite thing about gun-blogging?
One of my favorite things about firearms folks, is their desire to talk and share their experiences. Obviously we bloggers consider this a compulsion, but I look forward to interacting with the Gun Nuts readers as well.
