Ammo quest

Mrs. Ahab is out of town today, abandoning me in favor if the girls. C’est la vie. This however leaves me free to spend my afternoon in search of the elusive 124gr jacketed soft point, one of my favorite loads for 9mm. Barring that, I hope to be able to find some 147 FMJ, since the ExDee seems to really get it jollies on the heavier bullets.

Planned stops: Goose Hill South, Bradis, Beech Grove Guns, and Goose Hill Norte. I also will adhere to my philosophy of not spending my sporting dollar at places like Wal-Mart, which do not support our right to keep and bear arms.

  1. I support your ban on Wal-Mart. There really isn’t anything that place does right.

  2. Going to Wal-Mart to look for ammo is kind of a useless exercise, at least around here, unless you want .270 Winchester, .25 Auto or 12ga birdshot. The local Wally Worlds have been out of everything else for almost a year now.

  3. “no Walmart”

That’s OK. You wouldn’t find any significant ammo at Wally World anyway. Unless you’re OK with spending $20 for 20 rounds of social purposes .38 Special.

  4. Say what you will about Wal-mart, but when they have ammo in stock they still sell it at pre-Obama prices. Early this morning I scored five boxes of Federal Champion 9mm FMJ practice ammo for $8.97 each and a 100 round box of Remington .38 Special +P 125 grain JHP for $29.97. A buddy of mine recently spent about $60 for that same box of .38 at a gun show.

It’s true that pistol ammo has been hard to find at Wally World since the Obammunist takeover. Oddly, they’re short of .22 LR as well, but they always seem to have deer rifle calibers such as .270, .30-30, and .30-06. If you’re looking for a good defensive hollow point in 9mm, though, I haven’t seen any of that at Wal-mart since last year.
