I blogged yesterday about Eric Thompson (of thegunsource.com) and the April Fool’s Prank he played on people who subscribe to his mailing list. Well, Eric left me a note in the comments of that post, which was really the cherry on the perfect sundae of prank:
[I]t worked a little too well. Our servers got crushed and I received a call from the ATF DC office stating that they didn’t find it “that funny” considering all the calls they are getting.
I love that people were fooled enough by the prank to actually go an call the ATF to verify the news. I literally laughed so hard I almost cried when I was reading that. Anything that causes grief for the pencil pushers at ATF is okay with me.

I didn’t know about it until your post, so I knew it was a joke already when I went to his site. But I really loved how any attempt to actually purchase any of those items brought you to an “error” screen.
Fantastic attention to detail on that prank.
That makes me want to call BATFE on Monday and ask when I can expect a full-auto BAR to be available without papers, just to see if they’re still exasperated.
