  1. All I use is .45 and it is impossible to find. Walmart was my go to source, I was able to pick up Winchester White Box for about $20 for the value pack of 100rds of 230gr FMJ.

    They have been out for quite awhile now, when I was there this weekend trying to get some more ammo before heading to the range I stopped by, all they had was .40 S&W. My friend who shoots a Glock 22 was happy…

    Also Cabela’s and Sportsmen’s Warehouse which is a smaller version of Cabela’s that we have here in Wisconsin has almost nothing. All I picked up was 50rds of Winchester 180gr FMJ for $25 damn dollars.

    Not to mention there is hardly anything decent available online aswell. Though there seems to be tons of CCI Blazer around but since I collect my brass to reload in the future I don’t feel like shooting a ton of aluminum cased stuff.

    It is a bit of a pain in the ass, so shooting is on hold for awhile. 🙁

  2. I’m resisting the urge to say, “nyah nyah-nyah nyah nyah” to all those people (though none found here) that tried to reason away we reloaders over the past few years.

    “It actually costs more!”

    More than a .22 rimfire round, maybe.

    “I don’t have the time!”

    Yeah, right. I can load another box of fifty on my slow-as-heck single-stage press in the time it takes to go to WalMart, (and see that there’s no 45 ACP ammo left.)

    Anyway, I’m not trying to rub it in. Just wanted to let you guys know that it wasn’t me, okay? So don’t blame me. I have some Winny white box, but I got that a year ago.

    My small reserve of condom^H^H^H^H^H^H jacketed bullets remains untouched, but with my regular lead ones, unfortunately, I underestimated 45 bullet usage and overestimated .357 usage; and since it’s in the teens out there, I can’t realistically fire up the lead pot.

    But thanks for the heads-up. This explains a lot. For example, during the last couple of trips to the club, I noticed that the brass bucket was picked clean. That /never/ happens. Not a stray case on the floor, either. That’s okay, I know where to find them in the eaves, and I’m gonna go wipe out the shop’s once-fired supplies this week.

  3. Try Dick’s Sporting Goods. If you buy a box the price is lower. There are also quite a few places on the Internet where you can make your investment.

    Yes down South here we are seeing the same thing where shelves are pretty well picked clean.

  4. Our Wal-mart gets ammo shipments daily (in CA!), but specific calibers seem to be random. I spent a week checking on the way to work, and there was four to six boxes of the day’s shipment each day. By the next morning, they’re cleaned out again.

    I did the my part yesterday and bought both of the 250-rd boxes of UMC .45. If only I can talk my wife into stockpiling thousands of rounds…

    For some reason, though, there’s always 30.06. Maybe I need to invest in a new platform?

  5. Good grief, you’re right! I’m checking my mail-order suppliers, and the only thing they have in stock are the ultra-cheap remanufactured ammo, and 20/box top end defense ammo. (And two-thirds of that defense ammo is out of stock.)

    Yup, checked another supplier; same thing. Well, maybe it’s time to get a Lewis lead remover and check reloads?

  8. .223 ammo is also hard to come buy. I ht Farm and Fleet up here in Iowa and decided to check. I was amazed. They had 6 boxes of 20rds. $18/box though. I’m in the process of reloading 1,000 .45 rnds and also have a few hundred .223. I still bought the ones they had on hand. They told me there was a 5 box max per customer since the shortage. So , I went back in and grabbed the other box and went to another register. Well I guess the only pro of this shortage is maybe drive bys shootings will come to an all time low
