Now that’s what I call a cannon.
The 57-mm Mk 110 naval gun system is more lethal and has a higher rate-of-fire than any competing system. Linked with a digital fire control system, the 57-mm Mk 110 fires automatic salvos at up to 220 rounds per minute. Servo-controlled electro hydraulic gun laying subsystems provide robust endurance and extreme pointing accuracy, even in high sea-state conditions.
This is the gun that’s being mounted on the Coast Guard’s new line of National Security Cutters and Offshore Patrol Cutters, as well as the Navy’s new Littoral Combat Ship. I may have blogged about this before, however it was brought back to my attention because a reader just sent me a bunch of materials on the launching and commissioning of the USCG Bertholf, the first of the Coast Guard’s National Security Cutters, and the first ship to mount this weapons system.
The Bertholf carries the flag for the new Legend class of cutters, the official name for the NSC line of ships. Once I get all the materials put together, I’ll have a detailed post on the launching and commissioning for all you military junkies.
Hey! Littoral Combat ShipS!
There will be two! … maybe…
About time the Coast Guard gets some new cutters…and that does look like a beaut…

“Semper Paratus”
(Now, I’m just waiting for the Coast Guard to get a couple diesel electric subs in the fleet to surprise all those Columbian coke dealers. *LOL*)
Even better:

Yar!
The MK 110 is USN speak for Bofors 57mm MK3. I hope this is better than the MK2 which the RCN uses, cuz it’s a jammomatic!
