No more Wal-Mart

Going into further detail on the Bloomberg/Wal-Mart love fest, I want to expound on why it’s important to spend your gun dollars at stores that support our sport. Wal-Mart is the biggest retail chain in the US, and unfortunately it’s one of very few “big box” stores that sell ammunition, and the only one I can think of that sells firearms. Meier is the only other big box I can think of that sells ammo, and they don’t sell firearms there.

Wal-Mart getting into bed with anti-gunners is exactly the same as the bad old days of the Smith & Wesson deal; the difference is that S&W has come a long way and spent a lot of money to fix the damage done to their reputation during the Clinton years. I don’t think Wal-Mart will be interested in fixing their reputation, since firearms and ammo aren’t their primary revenue generator.

But what Wal-Mart is forgetting is that firearms and ammo are a huge deal – if all gun owners stopped buying from Wal-Mart it would certainly have an affect on their bottom line. I know it’s unrealistic to ask every gun owner for a total boycott of Wally World, but I would like to entreat everyone to spend their sporting dollars at stores that support the shooting sports.

Take your money to Gander Mountain, take it Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, or even better; take it to your local gun shop. Wal-Mart has said that they don’t care about gun owners, they don’t care about your right to privacy, and that they’d rather cater to anti-gun Mayor Bloomberg than the people that make up a decent chunk of their consumer base.

I understand that me boycotting Wal-Mart will have little affect on their bottom line, but if enough gun owners say “No More Wal-Mart” we might actually be able to get them to notice. You can contact Wal-Mart corporate at this link, however it’s important to remember that the person who reads your feedback will likely never have heard of Mayor Bloomberg or know what his coalition is all about. Sebastian has a good example of how to express yourself, as well as demonstrating excellent restraint. I understand how he feels, I also wanted to light Wal-Mart up and tell them exactly where they could stick up; however raw shouting anger usually doesn’t get the point across very well.
