Cool, but weird

Brits find fossil of man sized scorpion.

British scientists have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever.

How big? Bigger than you, and at 8 feet long as big as some Smart cars.

Now, we had some bigass scorpions in the Mojave Desert, but nothing 8 feet long.  It’s like something you’d expect to see in a Conan movie.  And yes, an 8 foot scorpion is just as badass as you think it is.

Braddy said the sea scorpions also were cannibals that fought and ate one other, so it helped to be as big as they could be. .

Awesome.

  1. Well, it’s got that thick carapace that you’d need to punch through, so probably something with maximum penetration. A round that would be good for Cape Buffalo would probably get the job done.

On the flip side, it’s central nervous system isn’t centralized, so you’d have to get a lot of internal damage to actually kill the thing. Given that, I would say that a Rockeye Cluster Bomb is your best bet.

Barring that, a .30 caliber machine gun would do well.

  2. Yeah, there’s no guarantee that it even feels pain. You may have to shoot for the head.

It looks like a giant lobster. I wonder how it would taste?

And the article also says they found giant spider fossils as well. Must. Kill. Spiders.

  3. Oy. Just think what you could do with those things if you managed to domesticate them. Wonder if the meat was any good.

As for artillery to use against them, definitely voting for 30mm depleted uranium rounds… or one hell of a flamethrower :).
