Poke around Ruger’s new website for a bit, and you’ll find the product page for Ruger’s first homegrown suppressor, a .22 LR can that fits perfectly with their line of factory threaded .22 rifles and pistols.
This new product comes directly on the heels of the ATF announcing changes to NFA rules, eliminating the CLEO sign-off but making every “responsible person” in a trust or corporation submit photos and fingerprint cards for a background check. Sales of NFA items have skyrocketed in the past several years, and more and more major manufacturers are offering NFA items as part of their consumer catalog. Most notable on that list would be Sig and their successful line of suppressors, and it’s great to see another tier 1 brand following suit. With a suggested retail of $449, Ruger should be able to shift a lot of these cans out the door.
It’s my personal hope that the increasing volume in NFA sales, which I suspect has largely been suppressors will continue to put pressure on the ATF to move suppressors off the NFA and have them treated the same as any non-NFA firearm, where you can buy them with nothing more complicated than a 4473 and a NICS check. A boy can dream, can’t he?
