USPSA Single Stack Ready: Kimber Team Match II

Kimber Team Match II

I’m thinking of getting back into either Single Stack or L10 later this year. Those have always been my favorite semi-auto divisions, because the equipment you can run in them is frequently more relevant to what people carry every day than Production is anymore. Now that Production is being overtaken by 43 ounce DA/SA steel pastablasters, maybe it’s time to go old school.

What better way to go old school than single stack? The Kimber Team Match II is pretty much out of the box ready for Single Stack, whether you want to run it in .45 ACP and score major, or 9mm and score minor. Plus, USA Shooting, the national organization for Olympic shooting, benefits from each pistol sold.

I’ve actually spent a lot of time running 1911s in Single Stack and L10, I’ve shot a Colt Rail Gun, a Sig Tac Ops 1911, and the Colt CCG most recently. Should the Kimber be my next single stack adventure?

  1. I like it, I only wish they made it without the Schwartz Firing Pin Safety, like they do on the Warrior Series!!

  2. Kimbers aren’t the quality they once were. I know several that have had to go back to the factory. Even my gunsmith isn’t that thrilled with them like he was with the old guns. I have only had Colts and Springfields and never had problems with either. I would like a SIG and S&W someday though.

  4. I have an older Team Match II that I have a lot of functioning problems with. These issues I think are resolved now, but Kimbers are off my buy list.

  5. If they are giving them to you, sure, if you are spending your own coin, no. For that price I’d go Dan Wesson, or Springfield.

  6. For that price, Colt is not out of the question. If the choice is a Colt or a Kimber, I’d pick the Rampant Pony all the time.

  7. I’m using a Glock 41 in IDPA CDP and in USPSA L-10 major.

It seems to be more reliable than the 1911 derivatives I’m seeing on the range.

      1. I wouldn’t say that, Mr. Sued. Several of them have some very nice 1911s.

The 41 just seems to work plain stock with cheap mags and no smithing. (And a creepier trigger, more recoil, a chunkier grip and looks only an industrial engineer could love)

        1. I was just busting your chops, Glocks rarely malfunction, you have to work hard at it and the truth is that some 1911’s can be finicky!! I have one that won’t feed my reloads with Rainier Ballistics Bullets, go figure!!

  8. I would go STI 1911 like the Trojan in 40. No firing pin safety, and they have a better reputation than Kimber. And with the 40 you can decide if you want to go major or minor.

Oh, and since I know you don’t reload, there are companies that offer both.

    1. STI Trojan for the win! I have one in 9mm and it feels like cheating. I got the hard chrome CRP model from Dawson Precision and it’s been great.

  9. Glock should sponsor Caleb in L10 with a 41. And, he should shoot that M1911 in Single Stack.
