9mm Colt 1911 interesting. XSE model might make a good foundation for a competition gun.
Caleb, are these all Series 70?? Did their Lawyers allow them to make guns the way they are supposed to be made??
No, I believe only the Gold Cup is a series 70, the rest are 80s.
Then they haven’t REALLY listened to what the people want!!
Glad they replaced that God Awful Rear Sight on the Gold Cup!!
Well that short discussion knocked the ‘mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm’ right outta my head.
As is oft said ” if it sounds to good to be true,,,”.
Thanks for being on the ball yrsued1 good job.
Caleb,
You seem to have more info on these new models than the Colt customer service people. Called yesterday and they claimed they had no info on these new models. Hmmmmm. Anyway, since YOU seem to be in the know….are these the only 9mm models that they are going to be making? When can we expect to see these on the shelves? I live and work not far from the factory in West Hartford CT. I wonder if they would alow me to camp out near their front door on Black Friday until they let these out the door.
As far as I know, they are going to be making a Commander, a Government XSE, and a more traditional appearance Government in 9mm. They are currently shipping to distributors, despite not appearing on the Colt website.
Hi Caleb,
Do you know if they will be making a 9mm 1911 with a rail?
Thanks,
Mike
They didn’t say they were when I was in Hartford, but who knows?
Damn! When I saw the Series 70 I got my hopes up that the LW Rail gun might be available without the “Series 80” pieces. Guess I’ll have to ask Santa – or find a frame and build one
I still have a “hmmmm” in my head, because: 9mm; rampant pony w/spear.
What this country needs along with a good 5 cent cigar is a American no frills 1911 in 9mm. Most of us shoot 9mm because 45 acp is to expensive.
maybe some year Colt will start producing 1911s that have all those sharp corners removed; amazing the rest of the industry does it not Colt.
Aw comeon… With all the CCW. bring back the Colt Magnum Carry Revolver. And maybe the Colt Defender in .357 Sig. Nobody is gonna carry a 1911 in 9mm.
Oh man. There is not enough money in my bank account for all those. That 9mm commander just looks awesome though. Lawdy I want one.

Colt’s likely to go bankrupt soon.
Sigh.
This again?
They could get back some at Springfield if they would just make a XSE with a 70’s trigger in a durable finish..
I know they made the Wiley Clapp Government model for TALO, but the blue finish at that price range put me off.
I’d rather have satin stainless for that price.
Given Colt’s precarious financial condition, these might be instant collector items.
From the looks of that “Gold Cup”, it would appear that Colt must have spec’d out a Bo-Mar look-alike that has the male dovetail located so as not to interfere with the Series 80 plunger in the slide. Prior to this, whenever Colt would mount a BMCS-pattern rear sight on their pistols, it would hang off the rear of the slide and just look awful.
Either that, or maybe it’s not a Series 80. That would be even nicer.
It’s a Series 70.
Too bad none of the frames have front strap checkering.
