Taurus 82 revolver update

taurus model 82

After some judicious polishing, I was able to get the trigger pull of the Taurus 82 under 20 pounds. Right now it’s about 15 in DA and 6 in SA, which is about what I’d expect from a factory S&W revolver.

Here’s a list of the work that’s been done so far:

  • Bearing surfaces polished to remove burs and imperfections
  • mainspring strut straightened

It may not seem like a lot, but it’s definitely improved the gun. The trigger pull is still very heavy, because I’m trying to figure out a solution for improving it that doesn’t involve cutting coils off the spring. It also still stacks up considerably at the end of the pull, but that’s because of the way the rebound spring works – it doesn’t maintain consistent pressure against the trigger, because the trigger is pivoting against the spring’s contact point. Again, a simple fix would be to clip a couple of coils off the rebound spring, but I’m trying to avoid going nuclear on this gun yet.

Sorry it’s been so long between updates; I’ve been pretty busy with work and travel the past few weeks.

  1. Wouldn’t it have been easier to sell it, and just go find an old Model 10? One that worked perfectly right out of the box, and will continue to work perfectly for the next few centuries?

    1. That’s part of the fun — seeing if you can get a cheap gun to run well. ’twas part of the reason I picked up a Charter Undercover last year.
