Rumors are flying around on the internet about the newest competition revolver, the Smith & Wesson 929 Performance Center. Right now, the only evidence of its existence is this youtube video:
If the video is authentic, here’s what we’re looking at: this will be The Gun for USPSA revolver once the rule change to allow 8-shot revolvers scoring minor goes into effect. An 8-shot revolver from the Performance Center chambered in 9mm would absolutely be the heat for USPSA, especially for matches at the state and Area level.
I would say that the video looks genuine, it’s on S&W’s official channel, and the person appearing in the video is actually an S&W employee. I’d be pretty confident that this is the genuine article, and that this gun will be making a floor appearance at SHOT Show. If it does, I’ll make sure to get the inside scoop from S&W about it!

You are in open automatically with the ported barrel. Shooting minor will hurt you unless you shoot all ‘A’s. Now if it will hold up to Major 9, it would definately be the open revolver to run.
The comp is removable! It’s awesome.
OK, increases the versatility. I would rather see such a revolver in a carry size. The 9mm in a J or K frame snubby would be great.

I have owned the 627 8 shot 357 since they 1st came out in 1997 . I have shot 38 Colt Shorts in them all this time, why would I want another caliber to load to produce exactly the same results?
Because 9mm brass grows on trees and many (if not most) USPSA shooters are set up to load 9mm.
It’s the same reason you load 9 Major instead of 38 Super in Open.
