Friday? Time for Tales of the Gun!

Today’s installment of Tales of the Gun highlights the history of Smith & Wesson. Sam Colt gets lots of ink for his contribution to the history of firearms, but the lesser known Daniel B. Wesson was a more prolific designer than Colt. Mr. Wesson invented the self-contained metallic cartridge (meaning that he essentially invented modern ammunition) and the basic design for what would eventually become the lever-action rifle in addition to the lineup of revolvers that the company is most famous for.
