Don't bring your guns to town

It’s New Year’s Eve, aka Amateur Alcoholics Night!  As is the case each year, many people will go out and binge drink tonight, and then will think that somehow they are capable of driving a car under these conditions.  Needless to say, don’t be that guy.  Get a cab, or get a DD.

For my gunnies, there is another admonition though: if you’re drinking tonight, leave the heaters at home.  If you’re fortunate enough to live in a state such as Indiana where bar carry is legal, unless you’re the designated driver, packing heat and alcohol don’t mix.  Don’t be that guy that ends up on the Brady Campaign’s blog for having a negligent discharge on New Year’s Eve, okay?  Remember guys, if you’re drinking, no packing heat.  Let the words of Johnny Cash be your guide:

Don’t take your guns to town son
Leave your guns at home Bill
Don’t take your guns to town

  1. Excellent post, Caleb. Remember folks, only one of us needs to screw up and it automatically reflects on the rest of us.

Dozens of people who didn’t get robbed, raped or killed today because they had a gun won’t end up in the papers but that one guy who pulled a weapon on some dude for eyeing his girl definitely will. I’m usually an advocate of ABC – always be carrying (where legal) – but seriously don’t be that guy.

  2. I think the whole concern is bulldozing mole hills into mountains. And yet where the stories of people acting irresponsible with guns after drinking alcohol?

How many blogmeets end in gunfire?

Methinks the concern over guns and alcohol has Anna Freud written all over it.

People are responsible or they are not. Like one of my favorite comedians Auggie Smith says, alcohol is not some magic potion creating instant morons.
