Ammo is back

A good barometer for ammo supplies is whether or not the big box stores have it.  Not just Goose Hill or Wang’s, but Meier or Wal-Mart.  Since I don’t shop at Wal-Mart, it’s down to Meier, which in fact did have 9mm in stock when I was there this weekend.  Additionally, the aforementioned Gander Mountain and Dick’s Sporting Goods also had 9mm, .45 ACP, and even .380 in stock.

Beech Grove Firearms, my local and favorite gun shop was pretty well fixed for 9mm and .45 as well, most of the 9mm was PMC Bronze, which is decent blasting ammo.  The downside is that prices have gone up, and will probably stay that way.  Ammo that used to cost $11.99/50 is now $13.99/50 in 9mm.  The average box price for .45 ACP was about $24 for a box of 50, which is still a little rich for my blood.  So it’s sort of a good news/bad news situation, as ammo is most definitely back…and you’re going to be paying a little bit more for it than you did last year around this time.

  1. Tell me about the prices. I used to buy a box of 7.62x54R for about $5-8. Now I found S&B for $23 for a box. That’s crazy.

You should check out Wally World, though, they do have ammo on occasion, and decent prices (I’m not much of a wally world person, but I do get there to check out ammo). When no one else had .380 or .38, I found several boxes of it.

  2. Hello, I’ve been reading your blog for several months and it’s one of my favorites.

Unfortunately, since I have neither a Dick’s nor an Academy nearby, I’m forced to go to Walmart or Bass Pro. I too have noticed the increase of ammo at stores, but there has been absolutely no .380 to be had anywhere around here.

I agree with HK, Walmart does still have decent prices: 19.95 for 100 rds of Winchester 9mm target ammo.

  3. I won’t buy ammo at Walmart since they announced they are video recording all ammo purchases & storing it. i don’t have anything to hide, but I’m fed up with this “Big Brother is Watching” nanny, leftist BS.

  4. Hey Stephen B.

Good news! Lucky Gunner Ammo has .380 ammo in stock right now.

It’s a bit pricey but if you buy in bulk, it runs about $236 for 400 rounds of Prvi Partizan.

Stuff is really hard to find at the moment…maybe it’s worth it to stock up?
