Gun Nuts Tonight: Tea Partying with guns

Tonight on Gun Nuts Radio at 9pm Eastern, we’ll be talking about Tea Parties – specifically, the folks that have been open carrying at the Tea Party/Healthcare protests.  I am of two minds on this issue, because on the one hand I love watching the media get the vapors over this stuff, but on the other hand I’m not sure it helps our cause.

The call in lines will be open tonight at 9pm Eastern time: 347-539-5436, and we want to hear from you!  How do you feel about people open carrying at the protests against Pres. Obama and/or Tea Parties?  Hear us, and be heard tonight at 9pm at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts.

  1. I do not think that it helps “our cause”. It presents an air of violence to some. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with a concealed carry, but the openness of some does send a bit of the wrong message. I know and you know that the overwhelming mass majority of CCL owners are extremely responsible, trained, law abiding citizens. But I also know that is not what the people watching the tea parties from a major media source see. Of course, if concealed carry is allowed then by all means carry. But lets not leave room for any unwanted opinions to be drawn from these important events.

  2. I think it does help our cause, every time something like this is blown all out of proportion by the media and…nothing bad happens.

The bed-wetters are, of course, always going to be be-wetters, but people who don’t have an instinctive aversion to guns and gun ownership are the ones we need to reach. Every time they see something like this, they make shake their head a little and think that it’s unnecessary or stupid…but every time nothing bad happens, it will reinforce the perception that there’s no real harm in it.

Of course, all it would take is one nutcase to brandish or, heaven forbid, fire a gun at an event like this to absolutely kill us.

That’s the only reason I oppose it. Even if the nutcase were on the other side of the issue, the very fact that it happened would transfer guilt by association onto every gun owner.

    Not a good idea.

But…it’s a free country. How we gonna stop them? Pass a law? Kind of flies in the face of what we’re all about doesn’t it?
