More on Homeschooling

The more I read stories like this one (from RL via Malkin) the more I really want to homeschool my children.

Hauser noted that this isn’t the first time that Deerfield High School and the school district have come at cross-purposes to parents. The district ordered 14-year-old freshmen to take a seminar that amounted to homosexual indoctrination, she said, and had them sign a confidentiality agreement promising not to tell their parents.

Now, before you can get on my case about being homophobic or some other stupid shit; hold on.  I actually want any eventual children of mine to be exposed to ideas and opinions which are radically different from mine, but I want to know about it.  I certainly would not want the school district going behind my back with my child and then instructing said child to not tell me about it.

Like I said, I want my kids exposed to opinions that may disagree with my opinions and beliefs, but I want to know about it.

  1. The fact that the school was willing to go to the lengths of making the children sign a bloody confidentiality agreement (how does a minor legally sign that, anywise?) indicates more than a small level of guilt on the part of the school administrators – after all, why are they trying to hide it if they thought it was the right thing to do?

However, in addition to the whole “parents should know about it” concept, I would add that these kinds of things are not the kinds of things that schools have any business teaching. Period. And the time/money used to teach these kinds of things only serves to detract from the actual classes and coursework that will help children succeed in life leater.

  2. Separating the youth from their parents……… has it(Socialism- think Gemany’s HitlerYouth or the Young Pioneers of the USSR) EVER worked differently?

  3. You will never regret homeschooling your children. You are also fortunate to live in a state that is very homeschool friendly. Just do it. You will not believe how 1) Good it works. 2) How good it is for your family. 3) How much better off and prepared for life your children will be.
Ignore those who harp about “What about their socialization?” That would be an issue if you lived in the Yukon or you decide to keep them in a jar/fish bowl or some such. There are a zillion activities for kids to interact. Daily contact and interaction with others is not a problem and you are in charge of what they are taught and not taught.
    Again, just do it.
We home schooled all 3 of ours kids back when it was not heard of much. (Our oldest was a special needs kid, who wasn’t getting what he needed.) Knowing what I know now and with the resources that are available out there today, it’s got to be a lot easier, too. Go for it and don’t look back. And feel free to email me if you have any questions.
