Morals and Ethics?

No, I’m not talking about the freshman class at the Academy, I’m talking about the bill in Illinois to add “moral and ethical considerations” to owning a handgun.

Now, I don’t know about you, but “moral and ethical considerations” sound like another word for “you can’t own a gun unless We, your Betters, approve it you little peon”.  I’m strongly opposed to arbitrary moral judgments of any type, because it’s a system that’s rife for abuse.

When you use arbitrary judgment calls like morals and ethics, you can deny anyone’s right to self-defense simply because you don’t like the cut of their jib.  “You’re an atheist and I’m a Christian, no gun for you.”  “You’re pro-life and I’m pro-choice, no gun for you.”

It’s a broken system before it even gets installed.
